ok my gf rides my ltr 450 and loves it just thinks its to fast for her so i was thinking about getting her a raptor 350 (are 250s good? i see a lot of stuff about them but think its to small) 400ex or something like that for about 2k-2500 maybe she only weighs like 110 lbs prob. id really love to find her a fourwheeler with some wide a arms and some good springs she likes to jump and loves to ride and i cant have as much fun with her on the back of mine what do yall think?

if she fits height wise on a 250 id say go that route. if not, a 300 or 400 would be perfect. you can fit 450 shocks on the 400.

i raced XC with a stock raptor 350 for 2 years. they dont have a lot of power. and are really heavy. with stiff suspension.

I'd say a raptor 250 wouldn't be a bad choice. They are light, and semi-powerful. The 400EX is a great quad, but they actually weigh a little more than a 450, so maybe she could handle a 450 with a little practice.

dude if she likes your 450 then get her one. you can pick up a yfz or 450r pretty cheap and she'll get used to it. plus when she wants to upgrade you won't have to buy a whole new quad.

well i believe the raptor 250's are shorter then a 250ex cuz i sat on one at my local dealer and the 250exs are kinda short also, but arcicat makes a dvx300 with a dual overheadcam but the bad part is its fully automatic(unless she dont like shifting or using clutch)but a warrior would be nice or a 400ex,kfx400,z400,dvx400(i think dvx400 is fully automaticalso thoughnot sure)

J.Brown121
07-27-2009, 01:12 PM
the dvx 400 is just the same as the z400 or a kfx 400 with different plastics

07-27-2009, 01:18 PM
ohh ok i jus thought that i heard somewhere the dvx400 is automatic jus wasnt sure

I'm in the same situation. I got my wife a 400ex cause it was pretty cheap. I think we are gonna keep looking for a decent z400 or equivalent cause it has reverse.

most people get their wifes and gf's z400's, it comes in pink, and they are fast in stock trim.

an LTR could be cool too.

You could get her a powerful machine and just install a governor/screw on the throttle clamp, and give her a really good crash course in throttle control, rear braking, downshifting, powerband/clutch, tire spin, and when to expect wheelies. How long will it take before she thinks a 400ex is slow? Especially when riding with a 450. Probably less than 3 months riding everyday. You might want reverse if she isn't comfortable spinning it around on a dime or can't push it. Get her to sit on a 300ex and 400ex. I've gotta say the ergo's on hondas are more fengsheui and for some odd reason I'd pick a well-designed looking throttle over razor sharp plastic edges, think about what it looks like while your riding it.

yeah she likes my ltr 450 but she said its way to fast i thought about getting one of them but think in the long run shed be happy with a 400ex it should be fast enough and were not gonna be drag racing so i think it should be fine i just want her something with a nice suspension so even if she does want to jump big which i doubt it it will be there ha she likes jumping but its like 2nd gear jumps shes fine doing a double which i think is awesome...do you really think she would be tired of the 400ex that fast? im not knocking girls but she is a girl haha and about the reverse thing its either her having reverse or me spending my day pushing her cause iono how yalls gfs or wives are but mine if shes stuck she expects me to do everything ha what year does the 400ex start having reverse and what year did the new body style start 05? or 04? what? thanks for all this help by the way

and yeah i agree i used to have a ltz 400 so i know an *** about dvx 400s and kfx 400 and ltzs and i know there is not a stock trim pink ltz 400 arctic cat makes a 50 or 90 or something in pink but i dont even think you can get a ltz 250 or lt 250 w.e. it is in pink... haha but yeah w.e. she gets it has to be pink ha thats the first thing she said she wants done

I wouldn't go for a a stock z400... Last time I was riding one, I felt really tippy on it. My 400ex in stock form handled so much better. I think the 400ex is a great all around quad, and you can probably find one thats decked out in your price range.

BTW, using periods makes it easier for everyone to read what the heck your saying.

Are you set on a 4-Stroke? You can't go wrong with a Blaster..easy to kick, nice power, handles good. You can find 400ex's cheap and in good condition. Look on craigslist, theres loads of them, they also handle great, and have a decent amount of power.

shane071489

no shed be pissed if she had to kick haha she just wants to get on and ride haha ok thanks i think thats what we are gonna get thanks for all the help

The 05+ 400ex is the newer body style, and they have reverse.

shane071489
07-28-2009, 09:53 AM
yeah thats what she wants just seems kinda hard to find one with suspension done to it which she doesnt need it but if imma pay 2500-3k i want suspension i think that would be fair price for an 05 dont yall think?

Johnny Minehan
07-28-2009, 10:05 AM
Yeah, that sounds about right. There are great deals out there man, I sold my 440ex for 1800 and it had PEP and Lonestar everything..they are going cheap now that everybody wants the 450's.

I know you want aftermarket suspension but heres one.
http://greenville.craigslist.org/rvs/1288373125.html

You could always get a stock-suspended one and have them revalved and she will love it. Also, go to your local dealerships and see what they took as trade-ins, a lot of times you will see EX's there because people used them as a partial trade in on a new 450. They usually want to just get rid of them, and will sell them cheap, too.

That's WAY too expensive for a 400. You can find a decent racebike for that much. (400ex racebike that is) I'd just get her a 450 and make sure she doesn't get over her head with it.

I dont mean to argue, but I certainly wouldn't buy my girlfriend a used race bike, for the reliability factor alone.

yeah the only hard part im seeing is she wants an 05 an up or a raptor 350 i think shes just gonna have to settle with a stock 05 up she loves how the raptor 350s look i just know the 660s i dont like to top heavy so im wondering is the 350 the same

the raptor 350 is the same and i know a few people who have owned them and anytime someone goes to ask about it they cut them off and say "junk, steer cleer of that pile"

Does the Raptor 350 have the same frame as the warrior did? If so it's def a night and day difference between that and a 400ex.

Also, another question. Will 05+ 400ex plastics fit on the older models without much (or any) effort? If so, you could pick up a nice cheap older model and just put new plastics on it. You'd still be missing reverse but you could just be a gentleman and move it around for her...haha.

i still think a newer 400 with reverse and 450 shocks would be prefect.

Key word was decent. You can find decent 400ex's as many buy them, upgrade them, and sell them in favor of a 450. But 2750 for a 2002 400EX with a pipe, I dunno about that one.

but if i got a 400ex and put 450 shocks on it her handling still wouldnt be that good its not gonna be wider so therefore it wont turn any better i want her something that she can go fast around a corner and its gonna be less likely to flip on her...what is the difference if i put 450 shocks on it?

the 400 is like 44-45 inches wide. and the 450 is like 45.5. she isn't gonna be able to notice the half an inch. the 450 shocks will give her better suspension... which is one of the things you said she needed for the jumps.

fastredrider44
07-28-2009, 03:26 PM
Stock 450 shocks (front only) will make it stiffer on the 400. In the rear, it's not as simple as bolting on the rear shock and going. If you want to go cheap and wide, get some 2-3 offset front wheels and buy an axle. That's the cheapest route. Or... shop around and you can find a DECENT bike that has already had bolt on stuff done to it, and exactly what you are looking for.

she has her heart set on a raptor 350 so i guess thats what im getting could i put yfz450 a arms and shocks on that?

07-29-2009, 12:41 PM
u could always get wheel spacers to make it wider
