So yesterday, I went down to Hills and Hollows, a 1.5 mile MX track north of Coshocton Ohio. It was $10 to ride all day and they are open every day, weather permitting. Anyways, I wanted to practice jumping and general MXing stuff since all of the county fairs are coming up and I had never tried it. I have been doing some TT racing, so I wanted to try something new.
I took it easy the first lap, rolling everything, not getting too crazy, just trying to get a feel for every jump, etc. The second lap, I started doing some jumps. I hit one jump pretty fast, thinking that it was going to be a long jump. It turned out that it was not. Instead of sending me out low and far, I ended up going high and short. My fiance estimated I was 15 ft. up and I landed totally flat. I rode it out, but decided to take a breather since it was a little rough and the wind had been knocked out of me. I tried to pull the clutch in, but my fingers would not work. WTF? I coasted to a stop and stalled out. I looked down at my wrist and it was bent funny, so I called my fiance over and we agreed it was broken. We struggled to load the bike, with the help of the creepy old guy who ran the place and then the old guy and his buddy proceeded to give their opinions on my wrist and felt the need to poke and try to bend it, Again, WTF?
It turns out that it takes an hour and a half to get to the hospital and I found out that I get a little cranky when I have a broken wrist, so it was a FANTASTIC trip. Got x-rays and I completely sheared the end of the radius bone and displaced it 90 degrees. It also looks like the end broke into another piece, and the ulna bone is chipped too. I am now done for at least 6 weeks and I cannot do ANYTHING for fear of moving the bones again, which would result in surgery and pins. I find out tomorrow if that is going to be the case anyways...
So the moral of this story? Always take someone with you when you go riding (thank goodness my fiance was there taking pictures...) and buy FlexxBars!! I am currently trying to talk my mom into buying me some lol.
