I got new bars for my 06 450r so as you know I needed to relocate the key and indicator lights. After debating on where to move these items to for an extended period of time we came up with this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5ea1T8aPAc
Please excuse my dirty R. The holes for the lights are already there. they had to be oversized about 1.5mm. We also made the bracket for the key out of scratch and used an existing bracket to bolt it to. In order to get a drill in that area and oversize the holes simply unbolt the upper steering shaft mount. Once this is done you will have enough slack to simply push it to the side. If you have a buddy with you to hold out of your way its a lot easier.
I dont like mounting the lights in the hood for convenient reasons....it makes the hood a little harder to get off..... Not that it has to come off a lot...I mean its a Honda, who needs to take the hood off :)
