'99-'04 top end on '05 bottom end?

Would my 2000 400ex top end work on an '05 bottom end? i really want reverse but i dont want to get rid of the old body style.

probably but why not use the whole motor if you have it? i wouldnt tear apart a good 05 motor if you dont need to. the 05 motor will bolt right in the same frame just like its a older one.

Yup should fit. I am keeping my eyes open for one myself. My bike is setup how I want it except for reverse. So if i find one I;m gonna put my 440 head w/ all the valve work and porting on it and drop it in.

with a 440 i can see tearing into the motor on an 05 but to just put 2000 head on a 05 motor makes no sence to me. you got an 05 motor just throw that bad boy in there and ride!!! i would love reverse i just cant seem to bring myself to sell or get into another rebuild right now i got one going on my spare motor making it a 426 11:1 but no reverse there either.
