Managed to get about four and a half hours of riding in this afternoon before a nice downpour kinda killed things. Great time and all but noticed a problem. The rear brake pads I put on Friday are down to the baking plates. Plus the pads on the back of my other EX are gone, too. The place is pretty sandy and has plenty of mud holes, but to blow through a set of pads in four hours is ridiculous. I have two more sets of the same semi metallic pad on the shelf, but is there a harder pad on the market. It's a bit much to be changing brakes after every ride.

check the axle bearings to make sure the axle isn't moving around. This will cause the brake rotor to keep touching the brake pads.

Check the brake rotor to make sure it is not bent.

Make sure you aren't riding your foot on the pedal. Adjust the pedal to ensure you must really push it down to activate the brake.

Last recommendation is an upgrade....switch to 450r rear brake caliper. You will also need the brake stay, the brake rotor, and the brake rotor holder from a 450r.

The brake and axle are solid. I do use a lot of rear brake on the trails but I'm not riding it. I'm sure the mud and sand are hard on the pads. Anyone got anything on the Kevlar, sintered metal, or other severe duty pads? Anybody have some luck with different types of pads?

I would definitely get some ebc severe duties i dont think you will be dissapointed. I have put mine through some major mud and sand and they are still like new. good luck, steve

I put the cheap ones on mine and they lasted about that long. I also noticed on the lower priced ones if you get any brake fluid on it they break down quite a bit and the pads break off in chunks....at least mine did even after a thorough cleaning with the aerosol brake cleaner

I seen the sever duty ebc pads but I was wondering about the other material pads and if they were any good.

I have tried ebc, tusk, dp, moose. OEM pads last the longest for me and really aren't that bad price wise. Some pads wouldn't even make it through one race.

Why not just get a set of OEM pads they last forever I hardly every touch the rear brakes while riding unless im hill climbing and going back down really steep rough terrain.

he did a set of OEMs before and blew through them in like 2 rides

I'll give the ebc sever duty a go and see how they hold up. The oem set I put on lasted a couple rides. Much better than the set on there now.

Considering every time you approach a puddle you lock yours up. You need to install a brake light before Mike or I runs into you and scratches that shiny black plastic.
