How far does the piston pop out of the cylinder when at Top Dead Center??

If your bottom end is an '87-'89 and you have a '86 cylinder then you need the spacer that goes under the cylinder. Does the cylinder have the "bridged" intake, or is it just open?

The reason I'm asking is my brother just had his cylinder ported and bored, and when he went to put it back together, his did the same thing. I told him that when they sent back his cylinder, they ordered the wrong piston. (His motor is a '87) Sure enough he had a '86 piston. I hope this helps you out.

Check out this site, it may help you out some too.

if you have a 87-89 bottom end, more than likely it has a long rod crank. You can go with a 87-89 piston or 85/86 piston and 4.5mm spacer plate. If you have a 85/86 cylinder, then you want a 85/86 piston, as the rings can get caught in the "open" intake. Many, like me, have 85 and 86 motors with 87-89 rods. You have to let us know exactly what you have, then we can tell you what your options are.

Yes, if you have a '87 bottom end and a '86 cylinder, then you need a spacer. Just be sure to buy a '86 piston as well........as the pin location is different. I believe everything I've said is right. If not, someone feel free to correct me.
