I bought a 2007 400ex in december. It was stock and rode just fine. Now that i'm used to it ive been adding mods. I just put a K&N air filter w/ outwearer, a #40 pilot, a #152 main and a 2" tip on the stock muffler. I bought a lexx pipe from RockyMountain but the mid pipe is not the right one so i'm waiting to slap that baby on. Anyway...whith those mods (not including the lexx pipe) it's like i have a whole new machine!!!!!!!!:D I was in first barely rolling then gave it full throttle and up came the wheels. NO CLUTCH REQUIRED! I was on my street so i couldn't get into 4th or 5th but it did this thruogh 1, 2, and 3! Frick"n awsome! Does any one else have similar mods with the same results? I'm interested if my situation is unique.

After my mods I let a friend ride my quad who hadn't ridden it since it was stock. He almost flipped it over backwards, lol. They're pretty light up front.

LOL! That's what I've herd about these quads. I was having trouble getting the front up sometimes. I could still do wheelies but not like I wanted to. I was considering a 440 kit but now I don't think its nessesary. I still need to go out and cycle through all my gears....I don't think I'll be disappointed. Like I said, its a whole new machine now:D

Sounds like a fun machine. Where at in Arizona are you located?

My son has a 07 400ex with a Yoshi pipe, K & N, no lid, and we changed the main to a 50. That machine is not the same anymore, and he can hang with just about any stock 450 out there. My wife's is currently stock (07 TRX450) and it's pretty even whether I win or he wins.

Sinister95Z-

I'm in PHX. I usualy ride the Four Peaks/Sycamore Creek area but also go up around the Payson and FlagStaff. That's about a 5,000ft difference in elevation. I'd probably have to jet down with these new mods if I want to ride in Flag or on the Rim. The Cinders and Bear Canyon lake area are about 6,400ft avg but most my riding's done at about 1,800ft in elev. The next time I go up there I'll experiment with jet sizes (if needed) and post my performance results:cool:

maybe a 50 pilot but a 50 main is like 100+ points too small. i have a 42 pilot and a 170 main. even a 50 pilot is kinda big, but your mods and mine are different and the elevation and air temps im sure are different... so it could be fine for you and not for me.

gotta cut him some slack it is a 150 main most likely. the stock one is a 148. It does seem a bit small but it could be perfect where he is at. LOL. steve

Yup its all about getting jetting right to get the power. With mine a UNI air filter, Full White bro's exhaust. sparks timing key and a Insane Performance airbox, I had to rejet mine to a 178 main and 42 pilot with the choke removed. It screams now litterally. I had to go huge on the main for some reason guy I was buying jets from said he rarely seen a 400ex reach a 160 main. But I lost all power at full throttle and going up got rid of the backfiring and taking the stock airbox off giving it more airflow gave all throttle response back.

One thing you will learn keep the front wheels down will be for a better ride lol. Went with some AMS pak traks keeps the front end down better and breaks loose really easy.

Yeah, I dorked that up. It is a 150 main. I guess my mind is a lot faster than my fingers.

I left the stock alone and went 1 up on the front. to help keep the front end down and bring my second gear speed up so I will be in third more often in the tight stuff and not worry about it bogging down to low.

So you must have a flipping machine instead of a wheelie machine huh? LOL! That's crazy...I was thinking of going up a tooth in the front to keep the wheels down as well as gain some top end speed.

Going up 1 tooth and jetting right I never have a problem with bogging down just hit the gas and it goes not studder no low growl sounds to down shift nothing it just goes.

It worked very well for me, too.

front most likely. i liked the 16 for the fast cruising stuff since it was quite a bit faster on top. i have not tried it with the 16 on since i have done the 416 but i think i would have good results with it. i guess it would bw worth trying to see how it is. steve
