The rounds are just clicking away as we find ourselves one round past the half way point to what is turning into one very exciting season of racing.

The series would visit Capeway Rovers for this round and one pretty solid track was awaiting the racers. Tight with some big air and a few good full throttle straights would offer plenty of challenge to those prepared to do battle!

I do apologise for coverage being a few days late as well. We are putting together several articles on this series for the magazines to get the word out on the series and you guys so bare with us!

Now you will have to excuse my hillbilly ways for a minute, because the sandy tracks you guys run in this series are pretty new to me. If it isnt hardpack or good loam, I am not used to it:p

The Youth racers would be some of the first racers on track after a quick practice session and would soon face the track and would have to adjust to the conditions

Pappy
07-25-2009, 07:31 AM
A few of the youngest racers would have some issues with ruts that were left behind by the big quads, but for most, it was all taken in stride. Help is always a second away with the Youth racers, and everyone keeps a close eye on them. These rascals are the future of our sport, and EVERYONE should be involved in supporting them in any way they can, even if it means taking a few minutes to stand on the fence and cheer them on!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 07:38 AM
Ryan Dupont would have an outstanding day here at Capeway with his win in not one, but two Youth classes! Dupont would have his Apex screaming all day and would secure wins in 0-90cc Auto Jr. 8-11 and in 0-90cc Mod. 8-15. Thats some great riding right there!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 07:42 AM
I had a blast shooting at he track as it offered a great mix of terrain and the light was some of the best i've seen all year. It is pretty dangerous for us here, as well as for the track workers as it doubles back over and over and in most locations you have riders running in front and behind you.

The area itself is rich in history and smack dab in the middle of vacation land for those heading to the beaches and out on Cape Cod. Pretty pricey area as well, much more then this ol' country boy is used to:p

Pappy
07-25-2009, 07:49 AM
Usually I am so busy running from spot to spot on the track that I miss teh shots I enjoy the most, and thats the family that is 110% supportive and always showing the intesity of the racing!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 07:50 AM
My kids have raced a ton of locals and national races, so I know exactly what they are feeling. A bomb could go off and it wouldnt waiver thier attention from the action on the track!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 07:52 AM
You can usually tell what is happening without ever turning around to see it:p

Pappy
07-25-2009, 07:55 AM
I hope all the racers get to see these pics, I know when you blow by them you can just catch a muffled cheer, but let me tell you, they are as pumped up as you are!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 07:58 AM
Davis Eames would rip to a 2-1 class win in 0-70cc Limited 6-11

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:03 AM
Myles Santanielo would get the holeshot in moto 1 as he puts his K&K Honda out front!

Joe Haavisto would be involved with a tangle in the first turn that would suck up several riders.....not a good start to the day

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:16 AM
Jon Glynn's first moto would end abrubtly as he snapped an axle. The broken axle and tire shot across the track like some form of Viking weapon:p Thankfully noone was hit!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:19 AM
Santanielo would remain the leader as everyone started digging in for one intense moto!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:21 AM
Mike Pilotte was upfront and charging hard as he rode in 4th

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:22 AM
Pilotte was about to put a passon Arno as the laps started racking up!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:24 AM
The man on the move was Joe Haavisto. Starting dead last, Haavisto was now moving up and picking off riders as he charged ahead.

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:25 AM
Aaron Meyer was holding 2nd , with Arno in 3rd and Pilotte remaining in 4th.

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:26 AM
Haavisto was screaming as he picked off rider after rider

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:27 AM
Santanielo had gotten the jump he needed off the start and the boy is quick! All he had to do was set the pace and not make mistakes and he could see the win!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:28 AM
Pilotte had moved past Arno for 3rd and was now pressuring Meyer for 2nd!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:30 AM
Haavisto had now worked his way from dead last to put himself in a position to battle for the 4th spot!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:31 AM
Haavisto would pass and pass rider after rider as he battled to the front. Once clear of Meyer and Arno, the Kawi mounted racer was now holding the 3rd spot!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:33 AM
Santanielo clears a jump as Haavisto can be seen clearing a table as first and third now were just a small section of track apart.

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:34 AM
Arno would not go down quietly as he passed Haavisto only to have Haavisto retake the position.

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:38 AM
Santanielo would race to the moto win unchallenged!

Pilotte would come across the finish line taking second, followed by Haavisto in 3rd after an incredible comeback!

Open Pro moto 1 was now in the books!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:57 AM
Susan Parker would get the jump and rip out front as she looked flawless on the track

Pappy
07-25-2009, 08:59 AM
Parker would secure wins in both moto's!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:01 AM
Laura Pilotte would go 4-2 for second overall!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:03 AM
Marie-eve Huppe would take 3rd on the weekend with her 5-3 finishes

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:07 AM
Justin Alger would clean house in College boy as he raced to the moto 1 win.

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:11 AM
The classes just poured off the gate all day long as the motos were run. The first table after the first corner was a bit spooky from my position, but these guys handled it well!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:13 AM
The weather was ideal, and even though the sun was bright and plenty hot, it wasn't that humid making it alot nicer then it could have been!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:14 AM
While this may be a regional series, the level of talent is excellent and I can see why many have given up traveling to the national series. Its just a great series to race!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:20 AM
One sign of a healthy series is the number of riders in the youth classes. Youth classes stocked with talent mean more riders that will move through the classes and keep it alive! The NEATV series has a talent pool that is numerous and it will be an honor watching these kids climb the ladder!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:22 AM
Even battle hardened warriors need a nap:blah:

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:28 AM
This track offered some of the best oppertunities for great photography that I was having a pretty good time out there:p

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:32 AM
I know a track worker was questioning why my son was on the track:p I can assure you that he is a very accomplished and published photographer:D Many of teh shots we use are based on the content and quality and who took them is irrelevant. I am pretty proud he has come so far with his skills, even though he would rather be banging bars with you guys:D

I shoot the pro's, he runs the camcorder, but in all other classes, it could be either of our shots that you see here or in the magazines.

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:34 AM
Cody has an eye for humor as well:p

No, I did not take a shot from the hose:blah:

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:36 AM
Engine swap anyone?

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:38 AM
Keeping the atv's clean is not a problem for most MX guys!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:39 AM
I'm not much of a jumper, but man did some of them look like fun !!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:40 AM
The Medics were always on standby, and here there were two on the track all day.

Pappy
07-25-2009, 09:45 AM
The series regulars are easy to spot! I havent met alot of you but do my best to say hey to a few new faces every round I attend

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:21 PM
Nate Morello would bring his KTM to the front immediatley as he secured the holeshot!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:23 PM
Nate kept it pinned as he remained the leader 1/2 way through lap 1!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:24 PM
Joe Haavisto had a good jump off the start and was on Nates grab bar, along with Ralle Rookey as the trio clears a jump

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:25 PM
Nate and Joe were pinned as they battled at the start of lap 2!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:26 PM
The action was incredible as the top riders battled it out in the air!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:27 PM
Haavisto fends off a hard charging pack as they work through a rythm section. Joe was in trouble however as an earlier close call had sheered off his rear shock resevior!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:30 PM
With Haavisto dropping back rapidly, Morello was now free to set the pace. Aaron Meyers was now in command of second place and looking to reel in Nate!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:31 PM
Rookey holds on to 3rd as the pack formed behind him as the racing continued!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:32 PM
Haavisto was running as hard as he could, but was being picked off as he had to lift when the track got rough

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:34 PM
Pilotte was on the move and was running 5th at this point

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:36 PM
Morello charges down the back straight as Arno and Vincent Mofford battle for position

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:40 PM
Morello would secure the moto 1 win, followed by Meyer in 2nd and Jason Connell in 3rd. Haavisto would drop to 15th.

Haavisto would redeem himself in moto 2 by taking the win!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:44 PM
Jasmin Plante would put his YFZ out front in Open Pro moto 2!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:46 PM
The start at this track headed into a fast right hander that had a nice roll to it:p These guys were coming at rocket speed and up to this point had not shown a ton of bad wrecks.

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:47 PM
All it takes is a good bump at these speeds and the excitment begins!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:47 PM
Jon Glynn had already snapped an axle in moto 1 and here was going for a ride as moto 2 began!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:48 PM
If it was possible to cross my fingers and shoot, I was doing it

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:49 PM
Glynn was getting ready to get slammed!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:50 PM
That hay bale was about to slow him down!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:50 PM
It brought him to a stop ......but here came his quad!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:51 PM
Thankfully he was ok, and would dust himself off and hit the track finishing 12th

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:55 PM
Turning from the wreck to the action behind me, had Plante holding the lead but from the looks of it, was going to have to stay hard on the throttle to keep it!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:56 PM
Pilotte had pulled up tight in second and was about to work on Plante!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:57 PM
The dou was pushing hard and putting just a tad bit of space on 3rd place

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:58 PM
The leaders were never more then a few feet from each other as they pressed on even harder!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:59 PM
Pilotte would get a great run off a jump and would try and out run Plante down the straight!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 12:59 PM
The pass was classic and Pilotte now held the lead!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:00 PM
Myles Santanielo and Joe Haavisto would now battle it out for 3rd

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:01 PM
Neither rider would concede the position and it made for some great racing!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:02 PM
Haavisto would claim his hold on 3rd and now was looking for the leaders

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:03 PM
Pilotte remained out front and ran just ahead of Pelchat. Pilotte isn't the easiest racsal to catch once he has the lead!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:04 PM
Pelchat was about to have haavisto on him as Joe had closed the distance

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:06 PM
The battle between Haavisto and Plante was epic as they battled in almost every turn

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:09 PM
The battle behind Pilotte was taking time, and that gave Pilotte a few seconds of breathing room as he raced for the final lap!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:10 PM
Plante looked to have enough to fend off Haavisto if things remained as they were

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:11 PM
There would be no last minute charge from Joe, he raced in to take 3rd, giving him a 3-3 for the day

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:12 PM
Pilotte would secure the moto 2 win!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:21 PM
I was told when I first came to this series that Joe was not really into having his picture taken:p I havent had a single issue, maybe he just doesnt like other photographers:eek: :blah:

Joe throws on the sad face but he was just clowning around! He had a rough day and had his work cut out for him so I know he was happy to walk away with a solid second!

Way to go Joe!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:24 PM
For Pilotte, it was a good day! He rode smart and hard and it netted him the number one spot!

All these guys are great, and as you can see they like to goof off:p No worries about getting Mike to smile:D

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:26 PM
Myles Santanielo is a work in progress. I have to tell him to give me a cheesy grin at every race:p He is great at giving up the "Police Line Up" look:D

Great racing Myles, great racing to everyone!!!!

Pappy
07-25-2009, 01:42 PM
That is about if people! We had a great time and enjoyed catching all the action.

We left you guys sunday evening, drove straight through to home, threw our gear in the truck and head off to Breezewood Proving grounds "Dream Camp" for the next 4 days!

Thanks Joe, the tires worked perfect and keep an eye on the mailbox;)

You guys take care, and we will see ya soon!

Nothing like some personal instruction from Jason "Dunk " Dunkleberger and Dustin Wimmer to top off a great weekend of racing!

Thanks again Moto Hanks. I went Sunday and I must say it was a great show. Lots of close racing and a beautiful track. I look forward to seeing more of what new england has to offer as far as motocross. Any suggestions on what tracks to go to next?

How late does the racing go? Im trying to convince my other half to go with me to the Jolly Rodgers race next weekend but she doesnt want us keeping the kids out too late since we would still have a 3hr drive home.
Hopefully once she sees one she will let me race next year. That or she will make me get rid of the quad.

probably around 5 or 6 PM, maybe 7. Since we are racing the track backwards, they have to wait for everyone to finish a race before they can drop the gate for the next one. You don't have to stay till the end of the last moto if you just came to watch. Unfortunately for me, my race is dead last and I am supposed to move into college Sunday. I think I am going home after practice saturday, so that I can move in Sunday morning before my first moto. I am going to miss practice on Sunday morning and I just have to hope that I get there in time for my first moto.

Curious about the same thing, new racer but experienced rider, what class would be best to start in?

You can always try 4 Stroke B or Open B, then depending on your bike size that could determine if you run 4 Stroke or Open, usually less riders in the Open class for some reason, but you can also run both if you've got some good stamina. You can also try the age classes depending on age, College Boy (16-24), 25 Plus, 30 Plus (B/C Level or A Level), or 40 Plus
:)

Why do you recommend B and no C class?

I watched the races at jolly rodgers over the weekend. All the classes looked pretty fast but I wasnt real sure what was what because you could never hear the announcer. I'll probably go next year and join either 4-stroke or open C. or maybe the 25+ Whetever is likely to be slowest

I only recommended B for the user that said he had some experience, it's good to start in C though, just depends on your riding ability, C may be better just to get used to holeshot and which lines to take on the track, once you get those down and have a good speed going one of the B classes would be perfect
