Well, the 8.8 in my F100 isn't holding up to nitrous and drag radials anymore, so im going to put a 9 inch back under it.

Right now, my tires stick out of the fenderwells, and im not fond of this look. I was wondering if anyone knows how much it costs to send a housing off to be shortened (have the tubes cut down)?

Im going to have Moser make me a set of custom axles, and im also going to convert over to a good disc brake set up, that way Ill have discs all the way around.

33 spline with a Detroit locker, and im thinking 4.56 gears.

I have 4.10's right now with an AOD, and 295/50/15's for street tires. Im going to go to a 275/60/15 soon, which will be an inch taller and an inch wider.

Im also planning on going to a 1 piece input shaft in the AOD, so that will get rid of the lockup, and let her go ahead and scream.

Does this set up sound like it can hold up to a 3800lb truck, running a built 347 , with a 150/200 shot (depending on the track)?

Im tired of breaking axles, and I dont feel like spending the extra money to beef up the 8.8 housing.:chinese:

How much HP are you putting down to be breaking 8.8s with a 306?

We've put down well over 1000hp to the wheels on 8.8's without an issue at all after axles, spool, elminators and welded of coarse. In which you are gonna want to do that to any rear thats got some power running to it. Save some HP and beef up that 8.8 right instead of going 9".

Thats what I was thinking. My old 88 Mudstain was pushing almost 850rwhp on spray and my built 8.8 held up just fine. Cut 1.5 60' on slicks with it and never broke a shaft. Beefing it up will be alot cheaper than swapping it for a 9"

Spraying it with a 200 shot out of the hole on 325/50 drag radials.

It keeps cracking the tubes right by the chunk. Where the tubes are welded into the chunk.

I need to update that.. its no longer a 306:devil:

Im gonna say you have just had bad luck with old housings(the tubes will bend and warp over years), suspension not setup correctly, rear end isnt Perfectly square in the truck, or something along that lines. We've done 1.2x 60ft's(8.3x's @ 160+) on 8.8's without issues out of the rears in the mustangs.

What type of suspension are you running on it?

I can post a pic of her at the track before I had her painted.

Mom decided taking my camera to a mud bog would be a good idea. I am currently cameraless.

Girls on myspace just haven't been the same since..:eek2:

Justin, Im running a stock style suspension on the truck. Leaf springs with Lakewood slapper bars and Energy Suspensions 90/10's. Up front, stock I-beams heated and re-bent to 0 camber after I cut 2 coils from the front coils. Im hoping it was just bad luck with the housing.

I already found myself another, and im looking for somewhere to send it and have it cut down thats local (as close as possible..) and I bought a 35 spline mine spool, and my dad is selling me a set moser 35 spline axles with C-clip eliminators (NIB) for $400.

I'll have to send them to Moser and have them shortened possibly. They're for a mustang width rear-end and to make everything fit under the truck how it used to sit with the 9 inch, I think its gonna have to be cut down alot.

I went to the 8.8 to save power. They are way more efficient than a 9", I just have bad luck with some stuff I guess.

Any reputable machine shop should be able to turn down a housing. Custom shafts start to get expensive. Breaking shafts with s 347 and nitrous? 8.8's are actually rather good axles. You running a 28 spline or 31? The brother's running a 550hp 396w stroker in the ranger with 35's and has yet to break a shaft. Granted it hit so hard that it cracks the blocks under it and rips the axle out, but still never broke a shaft.

If you're cracking the tubes, sounds like a possible bad axle or may I suggest an axle truss.

Just out of curiousity, what stall converter are you running and how built is your AOD? If you're putting out high HP numbers I'd look into running a C6 soon.
