The rectifier is only needed for the lights.

no you need it...the cdi on that bike is a dc cdi...if you take the component off(the rectifier) that changes ac volts from the stator to dc volts going to the capaciter it wont run

huh really i would have assumed since they are dc supplied cdi's they would need dc power not ac

yeah my 05 has ran with out one for about two months now. everything still functions the same. if you take a look at the wiring diagram it really doesnt ever make it to the cdi...

Don't have a diagram in front of me, but without a rectifier I don't think the fan will work either as the rectifier should be controlling all the elec. coming from the stator except what goes to spark. May be wrong though.

yeah the fan wont work, but i dont have one, it basically only runst the fan and the light, everything esle doesnt need it. the dirt bikes dont have one, because they dont have a fan or a light, but they have everything else a r does.

idk if you can do this on a electric start, because i think the electric motor needs 12v dc. but idk

I have it running but will only run at full throttle but does not rev at all. I have changed the plug tried a different cdi box and have cleaned the carb still no dice.

In that case, I think it moght work fro mx, but me racing xc and trail riders that might ride for extended times in hot weather or muddy conditions I would think it would be a high risk running without a fan. I think the er would start, but I am just not sure if the battery would charge up.
