I got clarke manufacturings new 5.5 gallon gas tank for my 400ex for christmas and am very happy with it. The fit was kind of a pain because it was pretty cold here that morning when i went to put it on, but with a little heat from an electric heater it fit on like a dream. No problems thus far, i'm very happy with it. With my motor being stock i suspect i could get near 200 miles out of a tank, that is unless i'm running 5th pinned all the time. I'll post up some pictures of the tank later this week.

I thought about one of those but then i thought of how much more weight there would be a gallon of gas weighs 8 pounds and some x's 5.5 gallons that almost 50 lbs of fuel .

we had to heat the rear section of tank, down by the seat gromets, see one side would bolt on but the other was a little too far out to bolt on, i'll get some pics either today or tomorrow. Is no wider than stock, and the top only comes up about 2 inches higher than the stock, so it doesn't interfere. the fit is very good, although there is about a half inch gap from the bottom of the tank to the rear plastic. But overall it fits very well.

Just because it holds 5.5 gallons doesn't mean you have to put 5.5 gallons in it;)

Can you tell us, does the Maier work with the Clarke? I now it says on there site that it may not work w/aftermarket plastic, but it does not say that it flat out won't. I plan on getting a new tank and was going to go with IMS but if the Clarke works with Maier I may give them a second look.

Thank,
Jason

i would say that the only plastic that it wouldnt work on is fullbore and the maier race plastics b/c they do not have removable side panels.

A guy who is buying one of my 400's wanted the largest tank available. He wanted it to look like my other bike [White trimmed in red, which I copied off the 89 250r]. In the process of waiting for the white plastics to come in, a friend of his gave him brand new yellow plastic because he MX's and went with some Maier race cut. Now he has changed his mind and wants a yellow tank. By the time I send it back and pay all the shipping, I would be better off selling it for less on EXriders or on Ebay.

I don't know how it fits, I finally took it out of the box to look at it. It is SO much cleaner than the IMS.

Anybody want it for $150 plus $10 flat rate shipping. They are $185 plus shipping [which will be a lot more than $10
