zracers gncc z400

well, we finally ripped it down tonight. 95% of the sponsors are lined up, the other z400 is pulling local race and practice untill this one is completed. i will keep this thread updated .....we should be done in a month.

i am learning alot about the z400.....some good...some bad:p
anyway....here is a few pics of the teardown.

the chassis and engine will remain at burgard's while he designs new a arms, swing arm, stem and hinson style case for the Z. then its off to me for a fresh coat of pc and some bling therapy:p

zracer is ofcourse:p he can ride perty good...he has a local class championship under his belt....and seems like he could do well on the national level. he only raced 4 gncc's last season ....in 4strokemod class....he took home a 2nd, 2 3rd's and a 4th. i'd say if he keeps training and this quad will stand up too him....we are gonna have a great year!!!

this is actually quad #1....it will serve as a back up for the gncc's and be the ride for the local races

just little things.....like getting the headpipe off.....and the fact that 1/2 the quad needs to be disassembled to remove the steering stem:huh also....i do not think the frame is near as strong as a 400ex. it looks better constructed.....but i think people are gonna have some real problems if they ride hard....and i mean hard. i like the quad....i would buy one.....but its not the perfect quad as dirtwheels has made out....JMO

Sweet Quad Pappy. How come you guys decided to go with the LTZ400 this year? What were you guys running last year?

BTW, The ltz400 can't be that bad if all the top GNCC pros are switching to them ;) . What do you think of the ltz400 compared to the 400ex?

he ran a 400ex in past seasons....he wanted to be different and switched to the Z last year.

i didnt say they were bad.......i said they arent AS good as some say. they require extensive modifactions to able to compete at the upper level. (so does every other quad). i am not brand loyal....i call them like i see them:)

how would you compare the 400ex/z400 for hard trail riding and some local cross country racing?

from the seat time i have on the Z....i'd say it would do great. it "feels" a bit stronger then the 400.....but doesnt handle as well.

after zracer installed the 400ex swing arm and upgraded the suspension it started feeling real good. i road it hard on his track and found myself needing to slow down....this thing will fly if ya keep on the gas:) its a comfortable bike...feels a lil tall for me but i aint a tall fella:p

overall i like it alot. the biggest things i didnt like about the Z is the 80's style swing arm and the plastic is a b!tch to remove for maintance and clean up:mad:

..but do you think the stock frame/suspension will hold up to the same abuse as a stock 400ex. I have heard of a few frames giving out over on z400central

honestly....IMO....i think if you ride the Z hard its gonna have troubles. maybe not in a year but soon there after. we noticed stress areas at the stem riser and i have my suspicions that we will see more when i get his frame stripped down.

i havent seen any frame failures...but zracer has informed me that the front of the frame is a huge weak spot....down near the lower a arm mount area. im sure for regular riding its fine.

now we havent stripped the quad he rode all last year. its doing great with no visable sighns of abuse. ofcourse him not crashing helped alot:D

If you had 5 - 6k to put into a new quad for hard trail riding, a little sand, and some cross country racing, which would it be?

Yeah and a lot mot wires too.

They are much more complicated then the EX for sure.

i like the 400ex way better then the z400s but thats jmo...the zs feel to tippy to the side and back...plus when you jump them the tend to nose dive.

yep...thats izzy ....and those are the newly designed 400ex stems. i will get pics of them thursday night.

They are the brand new sytle 400EX stems. They have Stem stops designed more like the factory design.

I am so amazed at how much that Z frame resembles a ex. Pappy you think they are looking the same up close? I know there not exact but when you said burgard was sizing one up for arms I was looking and thinking he has them allready LOL.

the frame may look the same....but they are WAY diferent IMO. in fact...i predicted it earlier....and i will say it again....i think the z frame is gonna be a HUGE headache for zuki. the angle on the most of the frame tubes are ...well...just prone to stress. i think peeps are gonna start crackin these suckas left and right. i geuss after this season we will see if im correct....and i hope im wrong...:)

No I am not confused you said "Ride Red." Your quad is yellow, unless you get new plastics or paint the one you have red you will never ride red.

Ride Red is a Honda copywrited saying. It doesn't necessarily mean your plastic has to be red, just as long as its a Honda.

Does anyone know the degree of rake on the Z and if it is the same as the EX?
