Hi,

I found a 2001 400EX for sale local for $2500. It looks as if its hardly been ridden, maybe 20 hrs or so. (I think thats why the owner wants so much?) It is bone stock except for handlebars and maxxis razr back tires (the owner said he tore one of the tires right when he got the quad and had to buy new ones). Heres the thing: The quad hasnt been started in over 2 years. The owner said the motor will run fine with a new battery and new gas. The tires are half flat, most likely from sitting, and it has about of inch of dust all over it. Plastic has minor scratches. What do you guys think? Is it worth spending $2500 on somethind that I didnt even hear running? He wont budge on the price. Is this a good year for 400ex?

Thanks for your help,
Jason

you can get alot more for $2500. I would NEVER buy a biker that i did not test ride. You don't know this guy, he could have stolen the bike years ago, smoked the motor, and now he is feeding full of $#!^.

The seller is a "friend of a friend" so I dont believe he would intentionally screw me over as far as the motor goes. He is also the original owner with the title and the manual for the quad. What should I expect to pay for something like this? I just dont want to miss out if its a good deal.

If that quad is truely that low on hours it is worth about that but I would definitly want to hear it run prior to closing the deal...

i second that BUT i just wanted to add something to think about. i bought my 04 400ex for $2650. it ran, i test rode it, and the thing was mint!

just food for thought!

there could be a better deal out there, but i know how you feel wanting to get on that quad. but if its in as good as shape and as low hours as you think, and if you can trust the dude then i'd say go for it.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I will make sure that it runs before I commit to purchase. I thought that it was a great deal, but after looking around, its seems only average at best. Once again, thanks for everyones input!!
