I bought a 53mm jug and piston for our viper..They told me it was supposed to work ok with the stock 42mm stroke...The engine does work very good but the piston seems to be down in the bore pretty good at TDC...Does this look normal or should I be right up at the top?..Is this costing me much power?..Cranking PSI was only 110 lbs after the swap and the stock top end was 125 when it was brand new...

Factory deck height is around .80, one of the first things people do that run the stock barrel is shave .40 off the top of the barrel and use a high compression head....this makes for a big improvement. Can you measure the height between the top of the piston the top of the barrel?

do a squish test , I wll bet it is much wider than recommended. If you can make adjustments to cylinder (mill it) until you have a squish of about .030 your compression will be much higher. IMO
