it took me a whole day to get up the bowl on my trx90 when i was 7, has he made it yet?

i started about 100yds back and hit the hill in the top of 3rd, barely pulled it.

Ya know, I didn't even have him try it yet. He just turned 6. I tried to find the easiest paths for him and my daughter to take. He's a pretty aggressive rider already <confident>, so, I think if the 90 was up for the task and I had the tire pressure right, he might be able to pull it off. I'll have to have him make a run at it next time :)

How was the bowl? The last time I was there, it was flat............. This was about 2 or 3 months ago. I'm not much of a sand rider, but I am going to winchester inthe middle of august. Sand lake to me is very very small. Fun to wheelie down the beach though.

The bowl looked about the same to me. I never really spend much time there. We like to hit all the hill climbs in the tree line. That's where the steep/technical stuff is and where we have the most "fun".

This trip was mainly about getting my kids out there on their machines though... :)

Your 400 is so nice. Great job man. Really. You should make it shine a bit more though. Like polish the clutch cover, and the other side. That would really set it off nicely in my opinion. Its all up to you though!
I can't decide if I like those Fullbores or the Lakers better! It seems the Fullbores fit much cleaner though. But, they're both so nice! Hahaha
Anways really nice quad man.

Yeah, I remember both bowls being much bigger when I was a kid. Back in the late 1990s/early 2000s, my brother and I had brand new (1997) CR250s. We we're launching out of the bowl closest to the ocean 5th gear WFO. Even back then it was tall and very steep, which made it a good jump. We have great memories of that place as kids. The trails through the trees are a blast, and the Banshee holes are fun until you don't make it out of one. It's no Wichester, but it's great for family trips. When we were really young, our parents would turn my brother and I loose in the rolling flats behind Dereck Rd. in a pair of FL250 Odysseys. Good times!!

Just out of curiosity, which bowl do you guys refer to as the "Big Bowl"?

Yeah, agreed, good for family trips, but, not really a "guys trip". It is way closer to my house though than the southern Oregon dunes. 4hrs vs 8hrs.

Sounds like you guys had some good times there!

I always think of the bowl as the 2nd bowl I guess.

The order starting at the beach is:

Beach, flats, big hill, flat, "big bowl" (sometimes has water at the bottom). I think this is where the "sand lake" name comes from.

What do you think?

We always camped out on Derrick Rd., so I thought of the first bowl from there as the Big Bowl, and the second one (with the water at the bottom) closer to the ocean as the small bowl. Most people tell me the opposite, though. I've been dying to go back there for a long time, but it's too far to haul the toys.:(

Makes sense. Jumps is really the only thing Sand Lake is lacking. Now, if you were on a CR250 pinned in 5, it doesn't take much to make a jump :)

What caused you to move out to IN?

I moved from Oregon to AZ when I joined the Air Force. I met my wife there and took a full-time civilian job with the Air Force Reserve. A few years later, our unit closed down due to BRAC. I took a job in Utah, but we didn't like it there. Then we saw a job here in Indiana, and my wife's whole family is in Chicago just 3 hours away, so we took it. We really like it so far, but you can't touch the west for riding spots!

Cool. We've been thinking about moving somewhere else. Somewhere we can get some land for the same value of our current house. I'd love to have a couple acres my kids could ride around on. We live in Maple Valley WA. I work down town Seattle. My job would allow me to live anywhere NW of New Mexico though (my territory). Wife's parents moved to Montrose Colorado. We were thinking about Idaho Falls ID, since it's pretty much in the middle of Seattle (where all my family is) and her parents. It's amazing what you can buy in Idaho Falls for 300-350k. Decisions decisions....

Parts of Idaho are really nice. Utah is okay, but LDS (Mormons) run the whole state, so if you're not in the "club", it can be a little wierd. Northern AZ is an awesome place. That would be hands-down my #1 pick. Prescott and Flagstaff are both great, with tons of riding, great scenery, and lots of other activities, including skiing/snowboarding. I really loved AZ; it broke my heart when we had to move. Phoenix was great, but we made lots of trips (friends all had Harleys) to Prescott and points north, and there are so many cool little towns and places to see. Even living in the Phoenix metro area would be great. The housing right now is dirt cheap, and there is so much to do within 3 hours of Phoenix that you couldn't fit it all into a years time. Really a great place, and if you're in the right neighborhood, the schools can be pretty good, too. For $300-$350K, you could get a really nice custom home.

You can never beat Oregon! I have traveled all across the country many times and I have never found the diversity that Oregon Offers. Don't get me wrong, there are many places in the country that are gorgeous, but Oregon offers almost every type of landscape within a 5 hour drive. Plus alot of riding!
