Im thinking about making the bike switch, or at least getting one and feeling it out. I cant afford a quad anymore!

And I dont know much about bikes. Im thinking the machine for me will be a 250f. Im 5' 11", 155lbs. I have a little expeirence on a bike. I just want something confidence inspiring that I dont always have to work on.

I was thinking about a CRF but I heard their nightmares as far as reliability goes.

What do you guys think?

Im also afraid im gonna suck. That i'll never pick it up.

Of course everything depends on budget, but if you are looking new, the Kx250f's have received great reviews. I have an 09 450f and I love it. I believe some of the earlier Honda 4strokes had some oil issues, but I don't know about the last few years.

He's looking for a 250 fourstroke, hence the f.

There a reason that Honda wins the ShootOuts! I too have heard the rumors about Hondas Valves, but haven't known anybody personaly that had the problem. And thats the only problem i've ever heard of with the CRF.

yea the only problem with the CRF's is the valves, honda uses cheap ti valves, easy way to fix it is to put some SS valves in it or buy CV4 Ti valves, now SS valves are only like 30-40 a piece and CV4 valves are 160 a piece

honda dropping valves isn't there problem. Routine maintaince takes care of that. many people who are new to the game need to understand maintaining their bikes. Keeping the valves in spec. is one of them. Just about every 250f are liable to drop valves, so when you own one you need to get the gauges out and take the valve cover off and check the clearances atleast every 10 hours thats put on the motor. If you mod the motor the higher the chance of the valves dropping so you check them more often. So whatever brand 250 you get just keep that in mind.:macho

i switched and i'm really glad i did. and i worried about sucking too and the first ride is awful lol but its kinda easy to pick up.

i'm happy with my bike, an 06 yz250f. if you get a yami, go with an 06 and up. i haven't riden any earlier yz250fs but from what i hear the 06 and up with aluminum frame are a lot better.

the earlier crf250s had valve problems, i think the 04 and 05s.

if you're buying a brand new one, wait a year, they will be EFI soon like the 450s.

the shootouts do help, but try and ride them all. actually you probably won't notice much of a difference between them until you start getting good. everyones gonna tell you different bikes depending on what they're biased towards.

hm i heard somewhere that the honda 250f got fuel injection for 2010.. if i was buying another 250f right now thats deffinatley what i would go for. nothing like blowing a berm laying the bike down and waiting 15 mins for it to not be flooded

Pretty much exaclty what I figured. Reading the shootouts in the mags is about pointless to me when their talking about a coating on the fork making the suspsion more plush and a tooth timing advance making the bike have a totally different type of power... I wouldnt be able to feel anything.

Im just looking for something that isnt so fast and hard to hold onto that I can never get comfortable one and something that like I said, I can build confidence on.

Im certainly not biased towards any manufacturer, Ive had 2 450r's and to be honest I've been dissapointed with their reliability.

My being a noobie to bikes, it seems like when I go to the track all the fast guys are almost always on a crf. The look and sound of them is amazing with a skilled rider on it. Im probably going to be looking for a 06 + used bike. But I checked ebay the other day and their almost giving leftovers away for what you can get a used bike for.

I made the switch about a year ago to bikes, i like it a whole lot better. I have an CRF250R THe only fault i had to it was the valves when i first got it, but after having to shim them a few times i bought SS vavles for it. Hav'nt had a problem out of them sence. But the valves is the only bad thing with honda, other than that it has been fine.
