I was wondering if anyone here has made there quad street legal and what it take to do that. I live in Florida so any help would be great.

Also does anyone know how to get a title for a 2005 Honda ATV that does not have a Vin number on it. Trust me where the Vin number is suppose to be it is gone but does not look like it has been tampered with it;s just gone so if anyone has any knowledge if it can ever be retitled please let me know thanks.

You can't do it. They were never registered as DOT legal vehicles to begin with. I have contemplated this myself, and even asked the highway patrol, if I added everything a motorcycle has, (DOT legal tires, turn signals, horn, etc) if I could obtain a licence plate for it.

They said there's no way to issue a plate for a vehicle not catorigized as a motorcycle.

That being said, i bet you could convert a motorcycle intp a 4 wheeler and it would be legal, and there's not much anyone could do about it, if you crossed all your T's.

BTW, your VIN number is on the front of the frame, behind the bumper.

dirt bikes are actually categorized as a motorcycle.. and with the right set ups, horn, signals, tires you can ride them on the roads. some four wheelers are allowed on the roads in some areas depending on the area you live in and laws but most just allow you to ride in town or down a road to get to trails. just not major travel like you would do in your car.

Sure you can. BUT it completely depends on what state you live in. Every state has different regulations for registering (for the street) vehicles not originally manufactured for the street. In some states it's not possible while in others it's pretty easy. I have a YFZ450 with a street plate and it's legal to operate on any road.

Quads mostly suck as street machines though.

Hey, GPracer. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. Do you think the laws are any different for Chandler and Phoenix? Cause I really want to legalize my quad for the street, just for the hell of it. Same with my friend.
You don't have mirrors or anything? Just a plate? And it's legal?!

some of the older honda cars have the 4 x 110 bolt pattern, just to let you know, and mirrors aren't required.

In missouri you cant license them as a motorcycle either but you can as a vehichle because it is a motored vehichle. Add turn signals make sure the brake and headlight work, get some Hoosier or American Eagle street tires and liscense it as a car. Nothing they can do about it then alot of ppl in towns around here have.

Yeah cause without the VIN no insurance no street legal sorry.

There is suppose to be 3 places on the frame were the vin is the one on the bumper isnt the only place I dont think.

it does not look like any grinding was applied to it. It looks completely untouched where the VIN is suppose to be. But i am not worried about it i have two quads and one has a title and the other does not so i will just use the same tag for both.

If your state pulls DOT inspection then it wouldnt pass and could end up in jail as it wouldnt have a VIN like you stole it.

Has the frame been painted or something like the VIN is just covered over?

If not I would say that thing is Hot and I wouldnt be riding anywhere I could get in trouble on it.

i already got caught riding the bike by two cops and they spent 20 minutes looking for the VIN and no luck so i was on my way. Seriously the bike looks like it has not been touched and if it is hot who ever had it before me is really damn good.

You can register it as a custom build! People make bikes out of their garages all the time with no VIN numbers.

Yeah I thought of that, but after inspection at the highway patrol, they ISSUE a vin for it.

ANd in Colorado, you're screwed royally if you do that (where I am residing at the moment) as they base registration fees off of age, and how much the vehicle cost when new. SInce there's no age on a custom build, they go with the maximum, which is over $500 a year just for tags. Seriously. That's why most of the bike shops around here strongly advise you to build custom bikes out of orginal and old Harley frames.

Atleast you can register a quad....... In oregon, you gotta run from the cops if they catch you on the street or they will take your bike. lol

I could do that in Ohio, but only outside of the city limits, and you could only ride on side streets.

The regulations are AZ state specific, not city specific. The only difference I'm aware of for different areas within AZ is Phoenix and Tuscon metro areas require emissions testing while other places in the state do not.

One mirror is required in AZ. You need a mirror, a horn, head light, tail light, brake light, and license plate light. And liability insurance, of course.

About the frame with no VIN....generally, when you buy a bare frame from the manufacture, it will not have a VIN since it's just a frame and not a complete vehicle. A frame with no VIN has not necessarily had anything ground off. Usually there is some procedure for establishing that an existing vehicle had it's frame replaced so a VIN can be issued without it being a "custom build". But as with getting a street plate, all the specifics regarding VIN issuing can/will be different depending on the state.
