Weird sound from top end

okay, so all of a sudden when my 300 is at idle and i give it a slight blip of throttle (not ease into it, just like hit it slightly with my thumb) i hear what sounds like some sort of leak and then it really roars. for anyone that's ever ridden in a turbocharged car, it kind of sounds like when a turbo spools up (but obviously not that long) it only makes the sound for a quarter to half a second but it's never done it before

thoughts? should i do a compression test? bad rings maybe? i don't know

does it run good? try to take a torch ( not lit ) and when its running go around the intake boot, head and base gasket, if it idles high or revs up any then you have a leak..

i didn't even think to check for an intake leak, that's very possible. i'll check'em out and get back.

haha yupp. that's all it was. the boot fell off the carb and was getting air straight into the carb.
