All of the above (except liquid cooling) plus a different cam profile, but it won't happen. I think Honda has made it clear that they don't intend to spend any real time or money on the old 400ex.

For this year, we'd be lucky to see BNG.

I kinda figured they prob wouldnt. In my honest opinion we've been lucky to have had the 400ex out for this long. I think it would be better to just focus on the 450r or make one in between the 450r and 700xx. Id take a 600ex with straight rear axle.

That would be too big of a change to be practical. Shocks, cam, compression ratio, and maybe even an adaptation of the 450r carb would be relatively simple and cheap, since the parts are already in production and would just need some slight tweaking for a different platform.

the 400ex will die, but i figure they will put out a big bore SA quad. something like a 600ex. it will be like a honda trx600r or trx650r. just to have a big bore SA quad like the outlaw 525s and the raptor 700r.

My hopes for the 400 would be to see the old style fenders come back, 450 shocks or at least some rezzie shocks, different cam, and some more comp while leaving the 400 motor in it. A better carb may also be really nice. It would have to be adjustable like the old ones though with a decent needle and stuff in it. It would be nice to see a 600 for more power but they should keep the 400 also because it is still a great trail machine for everyone to ride. it is not too crazy, yet enough for anyone to have a blast on for a long time. I feel that there is still a 400 class of people like us who want these machines. Although it may be dwindling sicne the intro of the 450s it is still there. If they update this machine maybe they would have a bigger demand again since not everyone wants a 450 for some reason. Just my .02 though. steve

I think the 400 has had a good run. To me it just makes more sense to make a 600 bike because you already have a 250 300 450 700. The 450r is just what a 400ex shoulda been but wasnt even without a reverse. A 600 making about 50 - 55hp stock with the older style 400ex fenders would be awesome a total ktm 525 and pred killer. Plus if they can keep it lighweight would even smack the raptor in the mouth. Plus they can keep it straight axle so it wouldnt directly compete with the 700.

I dont see them making a 600 when they just did a 700, I honestly dont see any of that coming out, I dont see the 400 going anywhere as all other competitors are still selling quads in the same class, honda would loose alot of money that way.

I see it staying right were it is and the same for the most part, but they might surprise me.

it will be exactly the same thing, it has been for 10 years...

the only possible change would be plastics...

suzuki has got the trail riding 400 market by the ****sac

As mentioned above, evidently Honda will not be making a 2010 model of a whole bunch of their off-road motorcycles and ATVs. There will be a CRF250R, CRF450R, Rincon, Rancher, and the Big Red. That's it. No TRX450R, no TRX400X, 300X, etc.

They're saying they have enough 2009 inventory to not manufacture 2010 versions of most models. I assume most will return as 2011 models.

You guys know that Honda doesn't release all of their bikes at the same time right??

That's true....you can still find plenty of brand-spankin' new '07's for sale here & there!

The dealeship I went to had the 07 and 08....I much preferred the plastic on the '07, the '08 looked like it borrowed a page from the insane mutant insect comics, way too over-the-top, aggressive and over-done. Just my opinion. The '08 was just $500 more, but it wasn't about the money.

Since then I've done UnderArmor belly & swing plates & front bumper, HMF carbon fiber exhaust, re-jet, K&N air filter, Elka Shocks, hand guards, GPS/FRS radio, Maxxis all around and a steering stabilizer...I spent half as much as the bike cost in upgrades. Guys, I LOVE this quad and can't imagine ever needing more.

For rock-crawling and weird offroad stuff, the IRS rear-end is great...but my most enjoyed thing is drifting, sliding and abusing the rear end. I know the clearance isn't there, but you just gotta love the solid rear axle. I even went with Maxxis I-Razr's because they don't have insane grip and can be broken loose and slid easier.

It's all about the fun and the 400EX delivers HUGE. I'm not really sure the 700XX would be as much fun. The front end looks wrong, the weight is greater and that IRS rear-end just can't be dazzled around as easily.

I'm not worried about it, we'll always have toys to choose from! :D
