Does anyone know the technique to mount and unmount your tires from your rims? The local dealerships, etc. charge like $25 a tire. Seems a bit pricey to me. I think they make tools for this, but can someone give me directions.

Thanks for your time.

when i changed mine myself i had tire irons and i popped the tire off the bead by putting a 2x6 piece of wood on my tire put my rim on the ground and drove up the plank with my truck. lol it worked but i still had to cut the old tires off. putting the new ones on was a pain in the @$$. tire irons worked but i worked at a dealer and using the tire machine is way easier. not worth what they charge but its a lot less fighting with it. but once its on the rim just fill it up with like 30lbs air and it'll make a bang and seat the bead onto the rim.

go to northern tools and buy there tire changer for $99. bolt it to a pallet, and be a bit careful with the bead breaker but other than that it works great, pays for itself real quick

Here is my issue, I want to unmount my tires, send my rims in to get powdercoated black (tires can not still be on the rim to powdercoat), then remount the same tires....

And this is definatley i dumb question, but i dont understand any of this stuff about the bead....could you please explain how that works?

Thank you very much.

I went to the local tire shop after buying a set of tires on-line and they took the old ones off and mounted new ones for $6.00 a rim. Stahleys tire. Good luck.

the bead is the center of the tire the part that comes in contact with the rim i made a bead breaker but unless you have a welder and the tools you may want to check out some catalogs
you said that they wanted 25 a tire did you mean 25 for all four cause that would be highway robbery per tire

No, they really did rob me. I payed $50 for them to take off my old tires and put on the new ones. And that was only for the two rear tires.

Got mine done at Walmart $2.50 per tire, only cost me $5.00 to unmount 2 front tires and have them mounted on another set of rims.
