I'm guessing this was raced in France by the
YAMAHA RACING FRANCE sticker.
Must have been a HARD landing. How bad was the rider injured?

hmm. looks like TNT1's analysis of the yfzr is pretty accurate.

Whatever caused this wasn't normal riding/jumping stress. The engine cradle is broken through and it isn't aluminum.

Looking at the photo's - I also noticed the front engine mounting bolt is either broken off or lost?

The quad is not mine (i'm more into the orange thing :D ).
I got the pics from another forum and yes, it seems it's from some pilot from Yamaha Racing Team in France.

Man it looks like the only thing holding the frame together is the engine! I wonder if it is broke like that on the other side as well.

No. It was run in "6H de Bastogne & Nuts Cup". It's kind of preparation race for 12h Pont de Vaux.
So, it broke the frame in a race.

This was told to me by the person who took the photos and saw everything.

Broken without warning!
The quad has 6 months.

No reason, no crash, nothing!

Just a yamaha

I laugh

I translated in google from Dutch to English.
If anyone doubts, i can give you the link to the forum where this is.

From a guy who was at the race:

It happend during a 6 hour endurance race in Belgium (Bastogne). A very hard track with a few jumps.
They guy never crashed it. Some nerfbars and a rear axle got broken too during the race.
I thinks that's the problems with only testing in the States. We've got some rougher/harder tracks due to harder landings and underground.

this may be a dumb question but what is that on the head pipe?

It's an expansion chamber. It effectively lengthens the head pipe to provide more low end.

I would guess that after the frame broke the motor mount bolt was taking ALL the punishment trying to hold the frame together. That Is Scarry!!!!

Look at the rear of the exhaust. its into the fender bracket. something was or came loose to do that. I saw Dustin Nelson's YFZR pics at Lake Elsinore MX park in Elsinore, CA earlier in the yr. one guy crashed, another rider parked at the landing. Nelson didnt see the guys there (bad spotting) and pretty much doubled into another quad. destoryed the frame. There has to been alot of stress on that frame or bad preperation. motor mounts left loose, or possibly dented the alumium frame somewhere else causing the weakest link to fracture. No means a bad frame or faulty production. just beat to hell.

there is no way in hell that frame snapped like that from normal riding/jumping . Who ever owned that bike beat the piss out of it!

dehner47
09-17-2009, 09:55 AM
how can you all say the bike is beat and not takin care of. the dude was riding/racing. but i guess you guys all have some special bikes that dont get muddy or dirty while riding/racing.

and i dont care if dude beat the bike day in and day out. its a brand new bike. it should not break the way it did. i'm not saying dude didnt land hard or ride it hard. i'm just saying a new bike should not break the frame the way it did.

most likely, the top portion of the frame broke arouund were the pieces mount together and twisted frame so hard, it snapped bottom rail. just my thought.

I agree with dehner. I'd say something on the top frame came loose, causing the top to break, and then after that broke the only thing holding the frame together were the motor mount, and bottom frame rail, And it just couldnt take the stress. And when the frame breaks like that it doesnt just mess with the frame. It would have messed the plastics up and everything. I doubt it wasnt taken care of. Other then it being dirty, and from what the frame messed up it looks like a clean bike.

^^^^ exactlly. the only thing that anyone can really say is the pipe looks a bit funky. but other then that, bike looks like it could be a pretty sick bike.

do the yfzr's come with the expantion chambers on the stock head pipe or is that an aftermarket pipe thats just a bit rusted up?? cause if its an aftermarket pipe, thats horrible. aftermarket pipe should not rust up like that. stockers, yes.

Dansc90
09-18-2009, 09:35 AM
Its an Aftermarket pipe. I know dasa makes them, but i'm not sure who else does. And im not sure if its rusty, or its just because of the mud baking on the pipe. Mine looks like that after a long ride until i polish it up. But then again If he knows what hes doing it could just be a stock pipe he put an expansion chamber on. It doesnt look it tho.

That is a DOMA exhaust. Is made in Belgium and here in europe very popular.
That is not rust its only baken mud.
The expansiton chamber is for reduce noise.
In europe the competition noise level is only 94db and this exhaust meet this level without a Quiet Core Insert.

i blame all that yamaha power... those pics were from r&d before it was released, they detuned it and changed the design up for the production model.. but that engine in the pics dyno'd at 113.8hp.....

dosent give the bike any more power at all its to lower the dbl of the exhaust since 99dbl is the limit in ama racing. byrd and a few other that run really loud pipes like dasa use these cans to lower sound levels
