so i just got the new dirt wheels mag and service honda here in indiana are testing their new honda 250r. Its a cr250 motor in a 400ex chassis. It sounds and looks nice, but will it be the same as the old ones? like faster or slower? tell me what you think

Well my guess is it's going to be faster. Practically same chassis, with an updated engine. What was the price tag on these? I thought I heard on here somewhere round 8k, not sure though. I would love to have one thats for sure.

I htink the price was from $7000-$8000 but i dont think it will be that high and if it is, it wont last

The current CR250R motors put out 52 HORSEPOWER!

SO yeah....she will be WAY FASTER!

That's the beauty of it man...it is NOT HONDA that is making this....it is SERVICE HONDA. Totally different companies.

SO Detuned....I doubt it...highly. :D

Well i wouldn't dought that they would detune it because like on a cr250 the people who can fit on the bikes are old enought or big enough to handle the power but i a quad all you really have to be able to do is shift and that's it not really a size limit

say a cr250 (bike( goes 75 mph stock. wont it go slower in the quad frame because of the more weight? and why did honda detune the engine down to 43 horse?

Seems sort of pricey for stock frame and suspension.

Where do you get these numbers from? Send me a link.

The CR250R does put out 52 HP....so maybe they already did detune it.

yes it had one pic in the new dirtwheels, i think they detuned it more than 42 hp. i dont know.

01-07-2003, 06:06 PM
Guys.. Nothing is detuned. A stock CR250 puts about 46HP to the ground on a 200lb motorcycle. Remember a quad has twice as many wheels to turn, and weighs twice as much. 42HP is a very reasonable number. 8000$ isnt a bad price either. Remember, due to the conversion, Service Honda now has a CR250 chassis and 400EX motor laying around...

Well then they could do a Electric start Xr400/ Cr250 conversion!

I think that has to do more with gearing than power. they are built for motocross and therefor have alot of power in the lower and mid range which you probably know. i think it would still hit that mark pretty easily putting our 40+ h.p.

Yea, just if were like the old 250r but with the cr250 motor instead of being in the 400ex, lmao

guys there is a prevois thread like 3weeks ago about this with photos of the actual bike on a dyno and much commentary worth doing a search for ! near as I recall from the thread it was making low 30's hp to the wheels on the dyno, also service honda has cr250 motors sitting around because they already make a cr500 that the put in the cr 250 chassis, check out there web page! so these must be the left over motors, and it it will help them sell the outdated 400ex that proubly are not selling very well with the intoduction of the new suki, kawi, cannodale, predotor, gas gas etc (no flame Intended I have 2 in my garage) so they are killing two bird with one stone now as far as the price goes they are way out of line with the 8k price tag, if they could sell for around $6500 range I would say it would be a winner. but for 5k and a old r you could build a bike that would eat that thing alive. HEY I FOUND THE OTHER THREAD WITH THE PICS I BUMPED IT SO YOU GUYS COULD SEE IT, CHECK BACK IN THE OPEN FORUM.

It should be interesting when these come out, wonder how many people will buy them?

In the pic in dirt wheels, the quad was piped with an FMF silencer and header pipe. I think joeroadking was right, i think it is in the low 30's or something for the hp

Yeah guys, these will not be out long. Left of honda 400exs and im guessing left over Motors. It is not safe at all though. For the price its basicly a waste of time.

there was 2 complete 250rs 4 wheelers with cr 500 motors for sale on ebay, when I looked yesterday one for sand and one for woods, near as I recall resrve was not met on the one I had my eye on(the woods one) last bid was $1875.00 figured the chassis alone complete and ok shape was worth at least $1600 alone. even if it was a vibration monster, as far as building one you would first need a r then a motor proubly could get it going for under 5k ,thats why the one on ebay looked like such a deal !
