I had to sell the LT-R450 to get into my house a few months back. Responsibilty sucks sometimes! Anyways, I'm back in the market in the near future and I'm looking for HONEST owner feedback on the KFX450R, DS450, and Outlaw 525/450 S. I ride 75% trail, but like to hit the track occasionally. I'm pretty rough on the bikes, broke my first Z400 frame (not gussetted). I would get another LT-R but it was a little wide for some trails and no reverse wasn't ideal. I'm just thinking I'll get a quad best for my situation this time. All models are '08 left overs for under $5k OTD, so unfortunately KTM is out. I've been thinking the Outlaw 525 S might be it, but it depends on what you guys tell me. How do these bikes hold up to abuse, respond to bolt ons, etc? Thanks for any helpful comments!

well i cant tell you i have ridden it myself, but i can tell you from seeing dyno charts that an outlaw 525 responds VERY well to mods. like putting a CT exhaust will give you about 10 more HP...thats a big gain for just an exhaust lol

I have ds450. It's an amazing quad , and isn't too bad reliability wise once you get the recalls done. The thing that's killing me on this thing is parts availability.dealers don't stock any parts for it other than oil filters and a few other things.

I've raced my 525s 3 times this year and has been rock solid. And I'm still on stock shocks. Real good power in stock trim. For under $5000 for a new quad is a nice deal. Mines a 09, but it's more of cosmetic change over the 08's

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm sure I'd be happy with any of the bikes listed, just adapt riding style to the bike. But since they're all around the same price, I figure I may as well get the one that suites me best. So far, I've heard positive things about the 525S for my type of riding. I'm sure it's got plenty bit of power stock, but it's good to hear it mods well, maybe help out the top end a bit.

A guy I used to ride with had a KFX and he didn't have any problems I know of, besides his shifter falling off, ha. Most likely it's down to this bike, and the 525S. Whichever best suites how I ride. Mostly trails, but plenty capable of flying at the track.

I'm sure the DS is sweet, and I'm glad Can Am is doing recalls, pretty much all new models have issues first year round. But since it doesn't have reverse, it's probably third on the list...

Anymore comments are welcomed!

Thanks. Looks like it's between the Outlaw 525S and KFX. I just checked prices again and it seems just about everyone is sold out of the '08 leftover KFX's  Damn we'll see...

Keep the comments rolling!

I haven't considered the Raptor because it will need to more than the other bikes to make it handle like the other bikes. And I'd have to get pricey aftermarket shocks (front anyways) rather than sending stockers out to get resprung/revalved. Also, they are pretty popular with other people and I cannot find any '08 leftovers, so they're over $6k vs under $5k OTD for the other models I listed. I hope all that makes sense, ha.

i have a outlaw 450 and its awesome so far it has lost of power but it isnt to great on top. ive been reading though that the small air intake and pipe hold the quad back ALOT like im talking if you put a full sys yoshiumra rs5 you gain 10 hp. plus it comes with fox podium shocks razrs all around its wider then a kfx and it has braided breaklines and a hydrolick clutch also you can pick up some nerfs for the quad alot cheaper then you can for any other.

Outlaw gets my vote. If you are rough on frames, you can plan on braking the kawi frame. Outlaw has much more power also.
