I usually have to put the bearings in the freezer or use the press. I just bought these cases used and went to install the crank bearings and one side required just a light tap with a rubber mallet and the other side just went in without and force. I put some shim stock around the bearing and tapped it in. The bearing is tight now but I'm still a little concerned.

Yeah, i'd say those are junk.

There's a way to fix them by center-punching around the outside of the bearing bore, which spreads the metal, but I'd prefer to get new cases.

I'm curious to what type of shim stock did you use?

Not sure how much it would cost, or if it can be done but, what about case inserts like is done on the lt500 cases. Trinity used brass inserts but, Dr.Q used steel inserts

put red loctite on the race of the bearing before you put it in, thats what i do for cranks that the bearings slip on to easily.
