Here are some pictures of what I started with and some of her from today with most of what I have either bolted on or at least just sitting on her.

I am trying to be able to ride by the fall. I may make that time frame but money is tight and I have been building this on a very tight budget.

Just building her up to be a fun play and trail ride. There is not one bolt, seal or bearing I have not touched.

So tell me the truth and let me know what you think and if you have any ideas for her, please let me know.

Sorry the pictures are not that great but it is raining out and I could not get far away from it enough to get good pictures.

She is an 86 frame, 89 rear end and suspension. Works shocks all the way around. Some 400EX parts here and there, Lone Star front end. RPM axle (I think). Some personal touches on the frame. I think the motor is ported for low to mid but I will find out when I ride her for the first time. 36mm carb. And a few other things here and there.

Looks great man!!! When you get it finished you need to make a trip up to Busco Beach. I wouldn't mind riding around with another 250R.

Thanks for the compliments guys. That makes me feel a little better about my budget R. It has been hard building this with the budget I have for it.

If you think mine looks good, you should see my buddies down the street from me. His is really sweet. This was his old frame.

Just got a box of new parts from Rocky Mountain today so now I have a few more things to play with.

1promodfan,
If I get up that way, I will let you know. I hit Carolina Adventure World now and then so if you are ever headed that way, let me know. Then maybe we would have three 250R's in the same spot. That would sure turn some heads.

Well I am sure mine will not be ready to ride by then. I sure would love to go. I have not been up there in a while. I have never ridden the track but I have had a lot of fun on those trails. I think the R will be a blast up there.

What do you guys think of the seat cover that is on my R at the moment? I was going to put something else on it but I have not seen any that I really like other than just doing black. This one came with the plastics and at first I did not like it but it has grown on me some. I think I may keep it for now. Just looking for opinions on it.

I love the seat......as I'm a BIG fan of flames!!! I say keep it on there. If it was blue I'd be trying to buy it from you.

Looking good. Sounds like your kinda in the same boat as me, Ive been peicing mine together for a few years, just need a few final touches and it will finally be done.

For building on a budget it looks great. I am not a fan of the seat though, I do like flames but I was never a fan of those seat covers, but to each their own, only matters if you like it.

Keep up the good work.

I'm not a big flame guy, but I say just use it, then try something different when its time is up.

I like black swingarms with black frames personally.

My biggest thought though is that it will spank that 400EX sitting in the corner... :)

Have fun!

I am not a big flame guy either but it is already on there and it is in very good shape. I am sure I will ride it for now. I would rather spend new seat cover money on parts that could get her going.

Ride first, seat cover second.

I had a really nice 400EX a couple of years ago. We sold all of our dirt stuff thinking we would not ride anymore. But it is in our blood and could not stay away for long. I just picked up that 400 a couple of months ago. It is all stock except for nerfs, twist throttle and new tires. It just needed tires and a good service. Has very little ride time on it. My wife will ride it most of the time. Unless she really likes the R, then I may have to build another one.
