View Full Version : anybody got the new boysen quickshot 3?

i saw that boysen came out with a new quickshot 3 accelerator pump cover, i was originally looking into a quickshot 2 because i have heard that if you put them on and tune it correctly it gets rid of the notorious yfz bog, but then i saw the new quickshot 3 and it has an external leak jet and its only about $20 more so it seems like its worth it but i was wondering if anybody has one yet?
thanx

changing the $8 leak jet also takes care of the bog...

oh its only $8, wow, that seems more realistic, i didnt even kno that i just never really looked into it until now. I always use to put up with the bog but its kind of a pain on tight trails.

what size leak jet you suggest for a 06 yfz with THE BOG

What's this "bogging"? I thought this was caused by improper jetting? Are you guys talking about it cutting out from a dead stay-still and you first pushing the throttle? I have the same problem, and it sucks for trail.

How do you get rid of this?

07-14-2009, 07:17 AM
pack, that is the bog...if you slowly roll on the throttle, it doesn't happen...

as far as what size leak jet to use, i don't know...hondas had the same problem with the fcr carb and i fixed it with a 55 leak jet, but i know the yammis need a different size...but they had the same problem and it was also fixed with a different size leak jet

im just gunna get this quickshot, i think its worth it cuz the leakjet is adjustable so that saves alot of hassle.

07-14-2009, 11:02 AM
once the leak jet is set, it will not need to be changed..it isn't affected by anything like elevation or weather...it is a metering jet that controls the flow out from the accelerator pump. in the honda's the jet is too big, in the yammis, it is too small...both produce a bog, but the honda's is more pronounced...ask the question "what size leak jet do i use to get rid of the bog?" in the yammi 450 section, and you will have an answer by tomorrow most likely. i could tell you without a doubt that it is a 55 for a honda...i am not sure if my friend found out what size worked or if he just said i'll live with it...

i just think it is stupid to pay 100 for something that can be fixed by an 8 dollar part...

i'll tell ya what..i'll you pay me $85, i'll find out what size leak jet you need, buy it and send it to you...you'll save $15 over the price of the quickshot with the same results...

This is going to sound retarded, but what's a leak jet?

Also, got a link on where I can buy them, or how to install them?

07-14-2009, 11:48 AM
not retarded at all...i didn't know until i had my 450r...

i have attached a pic of where the leak jet is in the carb...see my previous post as to what it does

and here is a link to buy one...

That trick sounds like it works. And it's best to drop it down to a 35? How many people have done this?

Also, what's a quickshot 2? (or 3, in cause of this thread). And where can I find them (link preferred)?

Thanks in advance.

I'm almost 100 percent sure that 50 is not stock, I just finished jetting a 07 and 08 and used the same set up that GT THUNDER sells, if you dont use the correct needle and setting , with the correct main and pilot your going to be way off with other peoples settings, 5 different set ups could equal all 5 using a different size leak jet to correct problem.

its nice to see a honda guy helpin out some yamaha guys lol
yeah...usually its the other way around : P
after readin up on the leak jet,50 is not stock.40 is stock for the 06.they mightve changed it on later years.sorry...didnt mean to mislead anyone.
i too got the gt setup and they did send a 50.which isnt what i wanted but i tried it anyhow and it was def worse.so i went the other direction.way better.
speedy-i installed the qs2 before changin the lj.just cuz i had one here and the jet was a week away.
the 35 seems to be the most popular lj size but theres alot of variables to consider.what works for some, might not work for others.its all about trial and error and patience patience patience.
ive heard of people deleting the jet by pluggin the hole or soldering the leak shut.i dunno about this..if youre gonna go that route, make sure the plug isnt permanent,(or have another lj handy)that way,if it dont work, you can always revert back to the orginal state.

Anyone got a link or pictures of how to change jets in a carburetor on an '07 YFZ?

04-05 have a stock 50 leak jet, later years used a 40 leak jet, my quad will only have that bog if i go higher elevaion, so im guessing its my needle not the leak jet. but if some of you guys think that with $8 the carb will be just like having a aftermarket accelorator pump cover thats wrong! when i put my R&D powerpump on i think it was one of the best improvements to the quad, the engine will not only rev super fast, its alot more connsistent, and having the adjustable leak jet is a breeze. i paid 60 bucks for mine brand new from ebay, and if im not mistaken i think 35 is the magic # for the yfz leakjet

Everyone that I have ever heard respond on this topic on other forums uses a 35. I have never changed mine as I don't seem to have the problem everyone else does or I just don't notice it. But I do know that they use a 35.

Where can you buy a 35 Leak Jet?

yfzrider690

You should be able to get them from the dealer but they will more than likely have to order it.

They are also called bleed jets. Here is the part number for the 35. It is out of the wr I think. 4JT-1494F-01-00

Here is a place that you can get it from. You could probably get the needle that you need to from here. The first link is the leak jet and the second is the needle.

so if you get a 35 leak jet and a boysen quickshot 3 it would take care of the problem.and would i still have to adjust my jets

yfzrider690
07-31-2009, 10:06 AM
Yes you are still gonna have to adjust the jets because they control your whole throttle range.

BrettOaktree
07-31-2009, 11:07 AM
ya but if u already have in dialed in now i would assume you wouldnt have to do any drastic changes in jetting cuz the leak jet on the boysen qs3 is adjustable so i think you could adjust it to compensate.
