Does anyone have experience with the 1987 Honda 250x? Someone wants to sell me one for 800. Is that a good deal or not? It appears to be in good shape, i am concerned about it having kick start, wondering how hard its going to be to start it. Thanks

There is another forum on here called "sport atvs under 350cc". If you click on that one it will show you a subforum for the 300EX and the 250X. You will be better off posting your questions there.

$800 is too much IMO. I bought one a couple years back for $400 which was still to much. They are great fun little machines for cheap and if it was taken care of could still be hassle free.

The 87's were the first year out and had tons of tranny problems. Make sure you shift through all the gears and feel how hard or easy they shift. A rebuild could cost more than $1000 or you could always buy a 300ex motor and put it in.

The kick start shouldn't be a problem unless there is something wrong with it. They tend to start pretty easy, especially once hot. Both have their problems - electric start can be hard to start as well - starter problems, battery, electrical issues.

Thats too much for one. Theres even a guy on craigslist near me thats listing one for 2k and its no where worth it. My brother has owned 2 and even swapped out a 350x engine in one. They are nice bikes but some have issues. My bro never could get his to stay together long until he fully rebuilt it completely. Its not hard to kickstart em nothing like a built 250r.
