I run 14/36 on my 300ex with 18x11x10 fast trekkers and I dont' like how it hits the rev limiter so often. So I was thinking about getting a 34or33 tooth rear aluminum sprocket, but I don't want to have to replace it all the time. I ride maybe twice and month and its mostly dirt, and alil sand. Do you think it will be worthless to buy one??

I had an aluminum sprocket on my 250r. I rode most weekends, couple track days, nothing excessive. I had to buy a new one at the end of the season. I decided to put a renthal on the back of my hybrid, which I rode the living **** out of and I will never buy another brand again. Its pricy but worth it. Thats just my two cents.

By steel, its cheaper and lasts longer.

is there any advantage to aluminum besides weight?

You can't get a 33or34tooth steel rear sprocket. They just don't make em. 36 is the smallest in steel

try titanium? sidewinder makes a chain and sprocket set for $350 that has a lifetime unlimited warranty and they're titanium.

Also on ebay i found a nylon rear sprocket lol.. I would have gottene it but it was $10 with $32 shipping because it was in australia.

I won't run anything but steel. I broke 3 teeth off an aluminum during one 2 hour race.

I run TAG aluminum rears on 70hp+ builds and have no issues.

Typically, TAG sprockets are about $5 more than others..

the sprocket you want is a Iron Man sprocket, its made by Dirt tricks and is $109, they outlast bikes. Typically, 3-4 chains and 8-10 front sprockets to 1(yes, 1) rear sprocket. Some of the guys on ktm talk have had the same rear sprocket for 6-7 years. I have one with 3-4 years on it, it doesn't look much different than new. Its just ashame they don't make smaller than a 36t. I believe any smaller and you need the 2 piece sprockets or need to remove the axle the change the sprocket.

Don't believe the sidewinder warranty, its full of bs!! I had 2 sets, first set is still good, front is getting worn some. The 2nd set wore out quick, chain got alot of play, front and rear sprockets hooked. I called sidewinder about it and they said I didn't use their chain lube and I had a non-stock sprocket combo. They rejected it, they are great for sales, but after sales, terrible. Don't buy into it. If you do order a sidewinder, they make some weird sizes, I got a 36t for 83/84 250r, stock is 42, nobody else had one that would last. That sprocket is lasting long, I went through 2 fronts already. Sprocket specialists is another place, I didn't have any luck with them, the sprocket wore really quick and didn't want to hear about how bad their sprocket was.

I too had a bad experience with sidewinder. I gave them a chance to rectify it and they dropped the ball. Their loss, I will never buy from them again and steer others away.
