it has a right side piggy resi on it so there is some room. they are both 16" eye to eye, so before I buy one to try it out has anyone tried it?

hmm, this sounds interesting. If it would mount up with some spacers or something. I have never heard of this and be sure to let us know how it works

shocks are near universal. take yur measurements and if looks right bolt one up and see how it does. dont be afraid to do a little trimming or shimming just make sure nothing binds up during movement.

i wonder if a kawasaki shock would come close. Surely one of the 450 shocks would come close. ds 450, ltr 450, kfx 450, 450r, ktm 450. You may be on to something here man. Does anyone have any measurements of the shocks mentioned above?

The YFZ450 rear shock is not 16" eye to eye. They were made in 2 lengths as I recall. Early models were 18.5" and 06-up were 19.25".

I have an SE model shock at the shop right now that will be going on my R in the next few weeks. We're doing it the correct way though, using the YFZ linkage and modded shock locations.

This set up was originally designed after the old CR500 shock/linkage combo's of the old days... only refined to perfection.

The SE model shocks offer high and low speed compression adjustment and rebound adjustment. These shocks are said to be as good as any aftermarket shock on the market.

I picked new take-off SE shock on ebay for $51.

Watch for a detailed write up, including pictures coming soon to this forum.

On a side note, the YFZ450 swingarm is .25" longer than the stock 88-89 swinger and can be made to fit easily as well, if your diving into this conversion.

We have one already done with the stock 88 swingarm. Let me post a pic for you.

This machine has the YFZ engine in it, but mine is still the stock engine.

so your going to do a thread and write up on how to do this? I would like to try.

Measurements for the kawasaki kfx 450 rear shock are.
top 1 inch
bottom od 1 3/8
bottom id 7/8
17 3/8 eye to eye.

What are the measurements for a 250r?

I will post some pictures up of mine when its done, but i'm not doing a full "how to" on it, being as it's such a heavy mod. Alot of fabrication is needed and it's not a mod for the average enthusiast.
