A z400 is not close to what a Ltr450 can put out. Its a trail quad versus a race quad. You will spend alot of money in a Z to make it capable of what a STOCK ltr is capable of. If you want comfort and reverse buy the Z. If you want a FAST quad buy the Ltr or some other 450. You are not going to win any races against hopped up quads on a z400 unless it has substantial work done and even then with the same amount of money thrown at the Ltr it will be head and shoulders above the Z again.

Its not like your going to be left miles back from them..... Your just not going to have the HP they do. You asked which was faster and made it appear that that was your top priority. If it isn't, then buy the Z. It sounds like you already had your heart set on buying the Z and was hoping everyone would agree with you...... If you want the Z, then get it. Its a great quad, but its not a powerhouse.

its LTZ400, not X. and if you're going to buy a new quad, just buy a Raptor 700.

Especially the new ones, they have great suspension stock, high and low speed compression adjustment plus rebound. It has MORE than enough power for anything you'd need, certainly enough to get you into trouble. And it has reverse. The latest also have a digital guage. Speed/trip/hours/other crap.

No real reason to not get a raptor...?

Sounds to me like you have made up your mind on the LTZ.

People are trying to offer advice but you don't seem to be taking it.

i have both of them. i use the ltr450 for racing mx and i build a z400 for racing xc. my z400 is stock with suspension mods when i first started racing xc i thought forsure i would be in trouble racing the 450s in my class. i raced in A class and only one to run a stock machine and also a 400. I have raced mx for the last 10 years so that helps. I placed three on it. So if you plan to do mainly trail ride just buy a ltz400. I love my 450 and yes it good for trail riding but most kids your age don't maintain the 450s they should have. The z400 is pretty bullet proof plus reverse is nice seeing it doesn't matter to have all the power in the world and being stuck in some trees to have to pull it out. also not saiding kids don't maintain things it just what i see.

i have a kfx which its the same thing as the z and i used to ride with my friends and one of them had a 450r and the other one had a 700 raptor. (all stock/ kfx was at the time\) we road trails all the time and it keeps up with them just fine. ofcourse they have me on the wide open parts but i wouldnt be far behind. but if you plan on getting into racing or anything get the ltr otherwise the z will be fine.

it's not always the quad it's the rider i'm not bashing the 400 ex but when my raptor is broke that was a last resort and riding with guys that have 450's and z 400's the 400ex is behind on the drags but in the trails im right behind those 450's so it would be more on the rider.

Have you thought about the KFX450r. It has reverse and being one of the 450s should keep up just fine.

yea the kfx's...one of my bestfriends ride a kfx and it is pretty quick but when i'm on a z 400 and he on his kfx i beat him in a drag so it's up to u on wt u want.

My bros. got a kfx450 and my other bros. got a yf450r. I like the kfx a lot for trails and dunes. It may not be the fastest, but it sure feels like it which is all i need. The kfx has potential with the right mods. It just is worse stock than the others as far as power goes. If you go for the kfx 450 PM me and i'll give you his shock adjustments. We just got it nailed down.

By the way if you like wheelies go for the Z. I can ride a wheely to 5th on them. Lot of fun. Oh and i was in the dunes and was on my sister in laws z with a k&n filter and lid and a yosh rs3 slip on with a 1 tooth smaller front sprocket and beat two stock kfx450rs. They werent the best riders though.
