my friend has an 06 kx250f... he said somethings messed up in the transmission and a guy told him it'd cost $800-$1600, thats about all i know about that. he wants to get a car and get rid of it soon and doesn't want to deal with it so he said he'd give it to me for $800. its pretty much all stock.

should i get it, get it fixed and re-sell it?? i already have a 250f...

I'd have to know more about the tranny before I bought it. If he will let you, take it to your own mechanic and see what he says, or fix it yourself.

true i didnt even think about that... but i really dont feel like trying to sell everything. what all could you part out? engine, frame, subframe, plastics, seat, swinger, tires/rims/hubs, forks, handlebars, gas tank. could i get a lot more by doing that?? :ermm:

The thing that sucks when you part something out is all the time you have in disassembling the thing, cleaning the parts, taking pictures, and getting stuck with all those little parts that somebody only wants one week out of the year. The you have the time it takes to list everything, package everything, and ship everything. That's why I normally return fourwheelers roughly to stock and sell the aftermarket parts separate, rather than part the whole thing.

yup it takes for ever to part one out

and it usually takes me about a year to sell everything

and you can sell anything, but like fastredrider44 said, some things will only be wanted one week of the year

and it is very time consuming

i spent 2 hours tearing a quad completely apart the other day, then an hour taking pictures and 4.5 hours listing them on ebay

and i still have the rear end to take apart and list

and all the motor to take apart and listt

.....so yes very time consuming, only advantage is that yes, you will usually make more money, and if you are like me and need to buy stuff for your quad, i can usually part someting out and get enough money to buy that part, faster than i could fix a bike and sell it

...and buying that bike not knowing exactly what is wrong and trying to fix it will sometimes backfire on you

i got a good deal on a quad and went to fix it...i put $850 into it, and it just keeps breaking..lol so now i have no more than i started with, except im out $850

sounds like a good deal to me, that bike running well but beat up would be good for 2800 cash in your pocket here. i say grab it fix it and make it look pretty, you should do just fine.

as long as the cases arent cracked internally which they could very well be if the trans exploded, then it should cost more then 1000 to fix even with labor, im not sure on total prices for those trans's but usually you can get em for like 600-800 all depending on whats broke. i would buy the bike and fix it and either ride it or sell it

Maybe try to buy a used bottom end instead of fixing it? I have no idea how much one would cost but its worth a look.

Wanna sell it to me? I'm looking for a kxf possibly in the future? For $800 I'd think about snatching it up and sending the tranny to my brother.

get it and tear the motor down and find out whats wrong. fix it and do the labor yourself, then you have 2 bikes or sell the kx and make bank.
