I just got off the phone with a reputable motor builder in Owasso Oklahoma. Within the next month I'm going to be having all this done on my brand new 07 400.

Curtis Sparks ceramic coated exhaust
Curtis Sparks foam filter with no lid
Jetted
Wiseco 416
Port and Polished head
Stage 2 hot cam

And possibly a Curtis Sparks CDI box

Do you guys think I'll be pretty happy with this setup? I'm picking up the exhaust tonight after work.

I'd be happy with it, but I guess it depends on your expectation level.

Curtis sparks supposidly has one of the better exhausts for the 400 as far as HP is concerned. The only change I would make to your list is I would use a K & N. But that is just my personal opinion, I have no stats to back it up. Just had really good luck with them. What Jets are you gonna use? As far as being happy with the set up, I think you will be surprised how much more power you will get out of the bike.

I think you will be happy but would be happier if you add a carb to open that thing up. You wont get the full effect of the full exhaust or the port and polish until you get more air and fuel in there. Very good start though. If you have just a stock motor now then it will be night and day difference. Also I dont think we are ever happy until the motors are bored to the max and there is absolutely nothing left to do. Once you have the 416 for a month you will want a 426 then so on.

A carb will eventually happen which will probably finish up my motor. I don't race or anything it's just a trail quad. I really didn't ever plan on doing all of this but why not. If I ever got to wantin to go really fast I would get a 450 and mod the crap out of it but I don't see that in the foreseeable future. I love the feel and everything of my 400 so I will probably be sticking with it for quite a while.

What is the name of the engine builder? Does he have a website?

J-H Racing in Owasso, Oklahoma.

j-hracing.com

Owners name is Johnny Hale. He races MX I believe. Seems like a real good guy to do business with and I am looking forward to getting mine done.

Just remove the choke off the stock carb and that opens it up alot. I was surprised in the difference it made to my stock motor. Its a free mod and it can only help.

Won't I have issues with starting the quad if I remove the choke? Some days I can go out and it fires right up, but other days its hell trying to start.

You need to go up to a 40 or 42 pilot. It's a well documented fact that these quads are cold blooded because of lean pilots.

Johnny has never built my 400 but he has my 450 he made that thing a BEAST. My son pulled 8 hole shots in a row on that motor. by the way Johnny is one fast m***** ****er too. he also sponsers many racers down here.

I would do a Ross or JE piston @ 11:1 compression.

That's good to hear! I'm anxious. I just drove a couple hundred miles to pick up a gently used Curtis Sparks exhaust. I can't wait.
