My EX has the D shaped pilot screw instead of the typical slotted,I'm thinking I had a bike in the past with the same thing but never adjusted it.Is there any aftermarket extended finger screws for the 400 or a link for buying the tool?I thought about making one with a .22 spent cartridge, which I might be able to do.

Or go out and buy the screw (Honda Dealer) from a 99-04 400ex model and replace the D-shaped one. They are the same and for I think it was $10.00-$15.00 bucks I didn't have to mess around with making a tool.

Once the carb is off you can try and get it out with the shell casing or the thin wall tube way. It is not tight so it should back out fairly easily. I took mine with me to the honda dealer and the guy let me use the tool to remove it since I bought the new screw there. It is worth a shot.
