View Full Version : Never realized how nice it was to have a private track......

i finally got in at a track 2 miles down the road from my house. its a bikes-only practice track and theres not to many people on the list that can ride there so its pretty private. and its almost always groomed and watered good. but its so nice not having to drive 2 hours every time i want to ride now. i had wanted to sell my bike for a while but now that i can ride more i have no desire to. and its a pretty hard/technical track, not a lot of big jumps, just hard ones. so now i should finally start being able to get a little better...

i just never realized how nice it is to be able to ride almost everyday :D

complete and total fail.... people like you who ride in places they shouldn't while knowing full well they shouldn't are the reason those of us who do abide by rules and laws have so few places to ride..

but i totally get where your coming from jesse having a track right near the house makes it so much easier to stay active, just wait til you've actually got one in the back yard:devil:

Yea I kinda feel your pain about that, here's a overhead of my track behind my house.

The orange line is the current layout, but the yellow portion is the part I lost when the house marked by the yellow X was built. Cut my track in half :(

haha dude throw some turns in there, just by using the space where the orange line is at properly you could make it as long as it used to be, hell our backyard track is on less then an acre and still takes about a min and a half to complete a lap

we're actually considering widening the track in its entirety or making two lanes separated by a median of high grass/weeds to allow for 2 quad races. I've considered for a long time about making a tighter track in the middle area, but never got around to stamping one out.

It takes about 40 secs to do a lap on this current setup

sort of my point, you guys have all that room to make a nice technical track where you would actually be able to work on your skills and you have this big ole boring loop

How did you lose your license? You planning on riding at rocket in august at all? We might try to hit up there, high voltage, switch back, and Plum creek in august.

haha sept 11 im on the road again, thats a friday so i'll probably be riding that weekend :D and thats when the tracks start getting good again... its only the begining of july and im already tired of hot and humid days riding on dusty as hell hardpack lol

After august though my riding time at the least gets cut in half, so I don't really see much seat time after steel city. Mainly due to college starting up and hunting seasons are lurking around the corner.

Those tracks are all in my area. If it's a long drive don't bother going to switchback. Place sucks. But if you do, let me know I'm about 15 minutes away from there. High voltage and plum creek are badass though.

Having your own track is really nice. I have ADHD so I change stuff every week or two. haha The only problem is the danger of having people over that are sketchy. It's hard finding people to ride with that aren't gonna kill themselves on your track.

What's wrong with switchback?

Well their track is better for bikes. But even for bikes it's pretty dangerous. Tight, not very wide. Plus they don't maintenence very well, lot of rocks, lot of ruts.

My personal beef with switchback is when I was 15 I got landed on by a dirtbike. When the flaggers saw the accident they all dropped their beers (on the bleachers) and ran to the track. If they had been on the track instead of sipping beers on the bleachers I would not have a metal rod in my leg and took that wonderful helicoptor ride.

I went there to ride once since and probably will again but it hurts me to give them my money because they don't deserve it...

when was the last time you were there? I've been there 4-5 times this year and the track was pretty well maintained, well except for the mx track. The only problem I have is that there aren't many quads going there, so I have to beat myself up trying to make a line for quads. I've only been to one race there to watch my brother, but the flaggers were all in position.

Yeah they don't really like quads and not many go because it's not a very good track for quads. What do u ride and where are you located?

I live in Trafford, PA which is near monroeville. I ride mostly at switchback, but I go to Latrobe Ax sometimes because its only about 25 minutes from my house. I ride quads(Ds450), so my choices are pretty limited. Might take a trip to High Voltage one of these weekends.

You have to water it and pack it..

If you don't, then there is really no point in disking unless you are tearing down grass. I don't ride dirtbikes, but honestly your track isn't too wide, if you are racing, then you should practice like you race and you need a track basically similar to the tracks you race on..

I race flatttrack/tt and we put in speed bumps, camel humps, huge sweepers, everything it seems like lol we disk the track, then drag it to make it flat, and water the **** out of it, basically you want it to were the dirt can't hold the water and it starts to pool up on the surface, then you have to pack it with something heavy, like a huge freaking truck, or we have used a steam roller  lol..

But racing or no racing i like that you are out there having fun! Remeber any riding time is seat time, the more seat time, the better you are! Happy riding.

yea its not wide at all, you CAN'T pass. but there is not very much room at all and the guy who runs it trys to make the lap times as long as possible. he a lot of times disks and stops and disks and stops going into turns so the braking bumps become like whoops lol. he does a lot of stuff like that, makes the track crazy hard so race tracks seem easy he says.

This dude is an idiot, lol i am sorry if you know him..

You won't be used to anything on the track if he keeps on doing what he is doing.. It almost sounds like its not even worth driving the couple miles to ride lol. You really need fast parts and technical parts. I hope his track isn't just a trail leading to a small on bucket of dirt double lol. You need more elevation changes, huge berms, fast straights, you need a huge jump where you can just literally pin it to clear it, and then i berm right after it get really technical. Just tell him, that the track needs to be better i am sure he will help you out. Good luck.

theres no room for elevation change, its a flat lot, theres 2 big berms but keep in mind theres not nearly as many berms on bike tracks, the majority of the track is fast straights, and theres 2 jumps there that he said he rarely sees 250s clear, theres no way i'm trying them...

and idk the track helped him i guess :ermm: he used to ride it a lot and it got him FAR in dirtbike racing. trust me. he was one of the faster guys on the east coast

Anymore jumps are jumps unless they are balls out wide open jumps. Turns are where it's at. If you're fast enough in the corners, jumps almost don't even matter. My thing that I struggle with (and probably about half of bike riders) are ruts. I've gotten a lot better at them this season than last, but I still have to work on them.

Having a place to ride, regardless of how crappy is still a place to ride. My cousin and I have a track specifically for turns built. Either way go ride and have fun.

As far as passing, our turn track isn't much wider than your's. I guess you just have to feel comfortable with who you're riding with for passing.
