hey guys im not to familiar with the ol 250rs and hopefully going to be a proud owner of an 86 im suppose to be trading my 02 400ex for it so im hoping im not messin up.im new to all this so is there anything i should look for in this r when i go to trade him any input would be well appreciated

check the engine cases for damage. look for repairs and JB weld.

ok thanks will do it seems like a well built quad but im not sure if like 250rs have certain things that go wrong like weak points n the frame n stuff like im said im new to these quads and always wanted one lol

Look at the bottom tubes of the frame, under the engine, make sure they are not crushed. The engine cases, most common spot for repair is in front of the sprocket/chain. I've had several Rs over the years, and every one has had repair there at one time or another, so don't let a repair there discourage you from buying it.

Cracked motor mount tabs, crushed tubes like said above. Start it and rev the bike, feel for vibrations. A stock cylinder r should be pretty smooth. I would also take a compression tester. If the head is stock and has lower than 150psi you will be looking at a new bore and piston probably. You have to remember its a 20 yr old machine, its not gonna be perfect but, if you take the time to get it right it will be way more fun than that 400. Without a doubt. Where are you from in Pa? look over the frame really well... also look over the motor for oil and leaks... if theres alot of dirt in one spot you should be able to tell if its oil... i would also check the swinger where the link bolts up and around the pivot bolt mostly for cracks... check the frame all over from front to back for cracks....it never fails for me... i'll get it home and find 10 more things wrong with it then when i was with the guy... look by the shocks mounts by all joints... every where.... i would also pull the plug and see what its running like... and see if theres something wrong... another thing i would do is check the air filter... to me some one that takes really good care of the quads has a clean or simi clean filter in there at all times... make sure theres filter oil on it and that its not covered with 6 feet of dirt and mud....

i will get pictures of it when i put it back together i found 2 hairline cracks at the top of the swingarm so im gonna weld that and i need carrier bearings,also have rear hipers for it but the hipers i have are the intergrated hubs and the splines on the axle are differnt so idk what ill do,the quad has a candy blue frame,candy red bottom end,candy blue cylinder,and all brand new carbon fiber look plastic
