I have 99 400EX with an FMF Powercore 2 pipe, Stage II cam, K&N Air Filter, and I want to make it a stroker 440 ... what all do i need im not really looking for drawbacks or anything id just like a list of what i need

my last 400 i had a bored 440 and i know well i kept the stock rod and well ... you all know what happens... so i dont want to go that route again

To get a 440 stroker motor, depending on how the engine builder does the crank. You should use the stock bore, and the stroker crank gives u the extra 40cc. To go to say a.......465 then u would go 120 over and that would give you the 460-465cc. DOnt know the exact size

I thought for a 440 stroker you bored it over to a 416 and then they stroked it to a 440? I know that's what TMM does but not sure about anybody else.

It just depends on what mm crank u get. I think the TC crank is a 6mm. And stock bore with the crank is 440

either way you do it you will need a new piston an the crank stroked. Most builders will not build a stroker with a stock rod so you will need a rod too. and if you only stroke it 4mm you will need to bore the cylender .80 over

I don't think anyone strokes to a 440 on stoke rod. You are right.

what does it cost to have all of this done ... to have all of this done... could you tell me individual cost like.. piston ... crank .. labor...etc...

Every time I see a post like this someone says "and you have to buy a new crank..." The crank in your quad is stroked itself; you DO NOT buy a new one. I would go with Carillo when replacing stock connecting rod.

Here is what you get with these combos::: stock 85 mm piston and 4mm stroke=420cc ---- 85 mm with 6mm stroke=431cc******(416 bore) 87mm piston and 4mm stroke=440cc---87 piston and 6mm stroke=452cc

www.powroll.com

they have a kit that uses a new rod, crank, and piston kit thats made to work together.
then for 500 the have a modified stock crank with a heavy duty rod and uses a normal 416 piston unlike the kit above.

if the 85 mm with a 6mm stroke would be 431 ... then what would an 85mm with a 7 mm stroke be ? or is this an option ?

well I aint really sure yet but i think im gonna go with mx#132's suggestion ... the 87mm (416cc) bore with a 4mm stroke ... sounds like one of the best to me .. thanks for the help guys

thats what i'll be doing soon:D

Call up some of the engine builders and talk with them to find out what you want. I would say bore it to a 416 then stroke it to 440 would be your best bet ( i might even do this someday). Im not sure about prices, but if your able to do most of the work yourself then it would be ALOT cheaper.

I think i could do most of the work my self im not sure what all needs to be done ... i mean what machine work .. or perfection ( percision) grinding or and thing.. everything should just go back together after its bored right ? or am i wrong ?

boring to a 416 or 425, and stroking to 440 would be your best bet, more sleave left for heat transfer, and better revvin cause of smaller piston, and saying you have a stroker motor makes it sound more hardcore

What would u say the reliabilty is of a 416 bore stroked to a 440....I know it's better then just a straight bore to a 440. But would it be the same as a 416's reliabilty or more like in between that and a 440..?

01-07-2003, 07:27 PM
i would think due to increased crank angle from the crank it may need rebuilt more often but i am not sure on that. i would say it's more relible than a 425 bore though

Yeah I think the 416 bore and stroke to a 440 is the way to go. That or 425 bore and stroke to a 465.

im doing a 4mm stoker with my 92mm piston.... its so funny i i have some much compression i blew 2 of the head studds out i thought it was kind of cool myself....we had it fixed...
