I was messing around with the r earlier today and i took off the magneto cover and noticed there was a small amount of oil on the inside of it. Then i looked under the magneto itself way in the back and i can see a little more built up. Right now im working on the back end of my quad so i have it hanging in the air with straps on the grab bar. Could the way it is sitting cause the oil to somehow get in there? If not what could cause this?

the counterbalencer holder seal is prolly bad or non existent. I doubt its crank case oil but i could be wrong. You need to pull the counter balecer holder/timing plate off and you will se a o ring that you need to replace.

nice thanks for the quick reply, i was worried it was something internal and i was going to have to split the case.

as mentioned it could be coming from either place but it should be evident as to where. if coming from the counter balancer holder, there should be traces of it there. if not then it is most likely coming from the crank seal.

If it is the crank seal can it be changed without having to split the cases?
