I noticed Service Honda has two parts numbers:

84-89 22401-KA5-740
90-01 22401-ML3-910

FYI, when doing Neil's clutch mod, do not try and use stock 250r springs instead! The spring coils are too close together when shimmed with the extra washer!

If memory serves me, anything from the CR500 that was successfully used on the 250R was from the 1991 year CR500. Examples being the clutch springs, and the rear shock linkage.

The "kit" should be the CR500 springs, plus the 250R drain plug washers (same quantity as the springs). Install those together to strengthen the clutch.

Here it is:

Keep in mind that used CR500 springs were tested, not exactly comparing apples to apples.

The fact that you are adding a drain plug washer under the springs is most likely the difference in "feel". This would effectively preload the springs, making them "feel" stiffer.
