checking the oil

is it the same as on the 400 where you have to let the motor idle for a few minutes before checking it? or can i check the oil cold?

I've always gone by 1/4 above the sight glass when cold and about 3/4 of the way up when hot.

I don't think I've seen a sight glass on my 04. Just the dipstick. I know with my 400ex yiu need to let her warm up a few minutes and check it then. Just wanna see if its the same for this or not as the difference on my 400 is almost a full liter of oil
