How has the reliability and maintenance been on the KTM powered outlaws? A local dealer is doing deals on leftover '08 450 MXR and 525S models.

I can't speak for everyone but I can speak for me and 5 other guys here who have outlaws all with the ktm engines and all of us race. We don't exactly abuse the quads but we definately ride them, and so far they hold up pretty well. No engine problems yet, knock on wood lol

I have had the 07 Outlaw 525 IRS since 2007 and race harescrambles avidly and I would have to say that at that level of abuse they are not as reliable as a Honda 450R. Don't get me wrong, I love my Outlaw but you will work on it. Polaris fasteners and plastics were far behind in 2007 and 2008 but appear to be fixed for 2009. They are a great machine but you will need to perform more preventative maintence and other repairs more than other makes like Honda. I can say that the KTM motor has held up well other than a broken valve retainer and the motor is very sensitive to having the radiator cleaned out. First thing to do is to get the thermostat block off kit from C&D Racing. There number is 402-614-2508. This is pretty much a must if you are going to have these engines. Hope this helps.
