my second gear and starter clutch are starting to go on my 426ex..

i am thinking about selling the motor as is because of the cost of rebuilding my tranny. i have the option of using the money from my 426 to build a 440 from a spare 400 motor i have that needs rings.

am i better off taking that route or selling both motors and building a hybrid using something like a crf450 motor?

the tranny is cake to do yourself --i do all my own work -its alot cheaper that way.if you need to get a manual and jump in the motor,,just be very carefull spliting the case ..my 1st time doing it i broke my right side case..but learned my lesson quickly...good luck on what ever you choose to do ..but a hybrid would be sweet too.(cr500) if you sell the motor how much $$$$$ ...that is a quick fix for a spare motor to add to the collection

440 in my book. if you think that the tranny is a big deal wait till you do a hybrid. then you are fabbing all kinds of stuff from scratch. the 440 will run great if done right and the tranny is not too bad. you can find full tranny on ebay pretty easy and tear it down yourself and it would be alright. jut make sure you have a good service manual and you can do anything if you inclined at all with tools. good luck, steve

Build a hybrid using a late model Cr250 engine like the Service Honda model!!

alright well i havent really made any progress yet, took the quad out the other day and im starting to think it might just be the starter clutch and not second gear. it made the same sound just after i started it and continued to do it shifting through gears. maybe the starter gear is just sticking? it has also gotten alot worse along the lines of grabbing when trying to turn it over.
thinking about getting a starter clutch to see if that fixes the problem
but will still eventually go in a different route with the motor
