Does adjusting the needle holder, under the main jet affect anything?

Like how you can back it out or tighten it and then tighten the lock nut. Does that raise or lower the needle?

this forum is so helpful, anyways I think I found a new way to adjust the needle on the 05 and up carbs.

That is not an adjustment point. The main jet holder should be snugged down all the way to keep the needle jet in place. The lock nut isn't there for adjusting the main jet holder's depth. It's there to keep the main jet holder from backing out with the main jet when swapping mains.

If you need to richen the needle on a non-adjustable needle you can add a shim (tiny washer) under the needle clip to raise the needle. You could also buy a 99-04 needle.

So if I went out and bought 99-04 needle it would interchange?
