honda 250x wont stay runnin

my 1991 honda 250x wont stay running and backfires alot i tested the ignition coil an its still good and i replaced the spark plug so my only guess would be the stator anyone have any clues? thanks

i would start with the carb ---clean it good--and clean the filter..not unless you have done that ..sounds like the carb too me ....
