It was going to cost me more to rebuild my extra short rod crank then to buy a new one. So, i have an 87-89 hot rod crank coming as of today. I know hot rods have their believers and haters in their reliabilty, but by the time i had my stock crank rebuilt, it was cheaper to buy a new one. Now, i need a 5mm spacer (i think) longer base studs, and a 87-89 piston, correct? Please let me know if im leaving anything out!!

86 style piston + 87-89 crank = 4 mil spacer plate.

Thanks, i wasnt sure how thick the spacer needed to be.
Also, what base studs do i need? I think someone said cr250, but im not sure what year.

Personally, I think you're crazy to try and run a Hot Rods crank right out of the box like that.:o I'd at least have it trued and welded first. You traded price for reliability, pay now or pay later as they say.:o

FYI, I had my shortrod crank rebuilt at Crankworks for $180ish. I never saw any new cranks that cheap.

Good advice!! I put a hot rods 4mil long rod in my Banshee but gave it my machinist first, it was .004 out on the outters right out of the box....He said they use better metal then the did years ago but still need a little TLC before you install one.

$160 to have the spare stock crank rebuilt. A new hotrods crank was going to be the same.
