Can i put 400ex a arms and tie rods on my 300ex with the 300ex shocks. i don't want to have to move my shock mounts. I don't jump that much. Do you think this is possible. atleast for awhile until i get after market shocks.

i need info

thanks

I don't think it will work. I don't think the 300 shocks are long enough. I am not for sure. I don't think the upper shock mount setups are all that expensive and I know you can buy used 400 shocks for $100, I had a pair but they are spoken for. Do a search there are a few guys that have done this mod recently.

ill sell you a set of stock 400 shocks for 100$...i bought axis...and yes it will work...when i set out to buy my 300 a set of shock i was talkin to elka and they said you can do it...if im wrong you can send me back the shocks, and you will get all your money back!

it works. it significantly lowers your quad though and they bottom pretty easily unless you tighten the springs a lot. i put my stock 300 shocks on just for fun one day and it really made it low, and wide! if you are just going to use the stock shocks until you get aftermarket, go ahead and use them then. hope this helps.

I have ohlins I just got paid 400 bucks. I think they came off +2 a-arms after market 300.I'd like to know if the angle of the shock would be to steep if I went with 400 a arms using the stock upper mounts. I dont want to bend the shock. I think the 400 a -arm shock mount is a bit further out. Is there a way to relocate the mount on the a-arm?

If i tighten my springs up on my shocks how bad will i bottom out?
Also when u say it lowers it, how high is my ground clearence up front?

THanks

It depends on how high you jump. If you don't jump very high then you will be alright. I recommend relocating your shock mounts and using 250r or 400ex shocks. If you can't make your own mount, buy one from toby300ex or from countypark. If you don't want to relocate your mounts or buy them, then have aftermarket shocks made to fit your application. I believe that the correct length is 14 3/4".

I don't know the exact ground clearance because I did not take measurements when I had this setup. I only had my 300 shocks on for one day before i made my shockmounts. I can tell you that the ground clearance is significantly lower though. Hope this helps.

for the guy who is puttin ohlines shocks on his 300...yes the 400 a arms are +2 but heck far the a arm mounts are different..it requires a longer shock guys unless you are flattracking...see the +2 ohlines are gonna be the same length as stock 300ex still....so....naw you wont ever bend a shock because of that angle..it'll be alright but will require a much stiffer shock

Ya you can run stock 400ex a-arms and stock 300ex shocks, set the preload on the tightest setting and dont jump that high and you'll be fine, it wont handle that well through whoops tho, but its ok for trail riding and crap like that. I have my stockers on cuz im waiting for my works to come back, heres what it looks like with stock 400 a-arms and stock 300 shocks -

i need to no how long the shocks are the you will need to do this? i know the stock 300ex shocks are 12 1/2 in. but how long are the ones that you need to use the stock shock mounts?

Stock 400ex front shocks are 16 inches long. If you are gonna buy works or other aftermarket shocks for ur 400 a-arms on ur 300, then they need to be 14.5-14.75 inches long. Works will custom build you a set for 320.

i got a friend that told me stock 400 shocks were 14" long he had me second guessing myself i thought thay where 16" but he just bought +2 a-arms for his 400 and told me he needed 16" one's now .

Will stock 250r a-arms work on a 300ex instead of 400ex a-arms? I have heard they will, and I have also heard no because they are different. Anyone actually done it?
I have the stock shocks from my 250r so I could get or make an upper shock relocating bracket for the EX if it bottoms with the 300ex shocks.

You don't have to get longer shocks. I'm running 250R A-Arms up front with works shocks that are set up for +2" A-Arms. they're not longer then stock or anything. It lowered my ride height and it handles great. I've bottomed out the front end and the frame will NOT hit the ground when you bottom out the front shocks. I run this setup and I ride MX so I know it works.

TRX300X i just dont see how this is possible....not calling you a liar but man you live2rides picture with stock shocks...i dont understand how the frame isnt hitting before the shocks bottom

Now I'm confused again...so now all I gotta do is get 400ex a-arms and have Works build me some 14.75 inch shocks??? I gotta be honest, the whole idea of that little shock mount bracket scares me. I'm no physics major, but.....anyway. I have seen listings in two different ads in Dirt Wheels that have new 400ex a-arms for like $200 a set, is that a misprint? Why are they cheaper than new 300ex parts? I'm guessing that most people that have 400's don't replace with stock parts...

So 250R a-arms bolted right up to your 300ex? I'd probably use my R shocks if we had a bottoming out problem with the stock shocks. I'm not gonna spend a bunch of money for works when I have a set of stock R shocks lying around the shop.

The reason 400EX parts are cheaper then the 300EX parts is because the 400EX is made here in the U.S. where as the 300EX is still made in Japan. That's what I've been told anyway. I don't know what the length for my shocks is but I just ordered works steelers set up for a 300EX with +2 A-Arms. I think they're standard length but just revalved and resprung different. Yes the 250R front end will bolt right up the only thing you need to do is use the A-Arm bushings from your X/EX. The 250R ones are longer and they wont fit unless you grind them down to fit.

So, if I order the 400ex a-arms and then get Works to custon build some shocks, on the average, how much will my travel increase? Also, will I need a longer axle?

TRX300X
01-11-2003, 07:13 PM
I have no idea how much travel increases but if I had to guess I'd say maybe an inch or so. In so far as the rear axle you dont HAVE to get a wider one but wider is always better. I'm running the Durablue Eliminator 2+2 rear axle.

trx300ex what im sayin is you must not be an agressive rider...i mean common...those a arms weren't desgined for the works +2 because the a arm shock mounts are different...put me on that quad and it would be a disaster on a jump...i dont think that front end setup would allow you to go fast enough

You also need 400ex tie rods because the stock 300ex ones are not long enough to fit the longer a arms.

I rode a summer of strictly MX this past year and I had zero problems. The front end worked perfectly. In so far as bottoming out and suspension dive once again I had no problems. The front end didn't dive excessively it carved a great turn and the front end would only bottom out when I really really pushed it. But then again any suspension will bottom out if you push it. Other then that it worked flawlessly for me. I didn't like the idea of cutting and welding my frame and I don't really like the bolt on kits to raise your shock mounts so I found muself a happy medium.
