I bought one today and it won't work with my 2007. It's too wide just like the craftsman socket.

Well I figured that maybe I was an idiot and just didnt get it to work, so I went out and messed with it for about 20 minutes. Trying different angles and everything I could. It wont go in there, it is just too big.

The part I bought is part number 80789. Maybe it's the wrong part.

A socket that fits in one 400ex head may not necessarily fit in another 400ex. Small differences in the castings from one head and valve cover to another could make the difference. I don't recall there being any machining done to the castings in that area. There's bound to be some variation.

I bought a 99 cent 18mm socket from Harbor freight and chucked it up in my lathe, ran about .075" off of it and it works great!

You can either do that, or take a grinding stone to the fins around the spark plug hole until one fits. Make sure you do this with the plug in! and use a blow gun to remove all the metal shavings before removing the spark plug.

That being said, any machine shop could turn down a socket for less than $10. It wouldn't take more than 3 minutes on a lathe.

I went to my local pawn shop and bought the oldest looking 18mm I could find for 50 cents and it worked perfect!
