ok I have a yz 426 motor and some other odds and ends. Here is my thoughts.

1. Buy a aftermarket frame and start a yz426 250r geom. hybrid

or

2. sell what i got and purchase a production quad.

* I know that this is the hybrid forum but just wanted some serious answers. From a money versus value standpoint and what not

IMO - dump the motor and parts and get a production quad.

Reasons - YZ426 is an old motor (2001-2002) meaning they will dump parts on it pretty quickly - life of parts for newer replaced machines is 7 years.

A production motor will be newer and better designed as well. Lots of deals out there for new ones and used ones it's a buyers market.

Or the other option is to ditch the motor and buy a hybrid that is already built (much cheaper).

Either route you go right now its def. a buyers market. If you decide to build one or buy one complete prices are down! If you do go the YZ426 hybrid route you shouldnt be disappointed. When set up right they are a very stout engine. If at all possible find a good chassis to start with(walsh, laeger, houser, etc..) thats built for that engine with either a cr500, crf, or no link rear end. Any of those will out handle a production chassis that is set up similiar. I dont think you will have a problem tracking down yz426 parts for a long time either. Let me know if you need some help tracking down anything, ive got a ton of YZF stuff around here.

Thank you
Justin

here is my real question. I have hear that there are a lot of problems with the yz426 motors. Needing to be replacing parts all the time. do you think that the motors are very reliable? what are your thoughts?

Supposedly the Yzf tranny is just not strong enough for a quad application. I have read the Crf motors handle the extra contact patch better.

Maybe a little far but if you are serious.
