View Full Version : Quad stalls?

If I let my quad idle for a couple of minutes, as soon as I apply any throttle, it stalls. I'm quite sure it's a minor jetting issue, but I can't seem to correct it.

Sounds like it's a little rich. When it idles for a while it slowly loads up with fuel so when you get to hit the throttle it spudders and dies. I've seen it a couple times.

What pilot jet do you have in it?

Never mind, just saw your sig. That sounds about right though. Did you adjust the clip at all?

I tried adjusting the clip and it was way too rich, so I returned it to the stock position.

I should also mention that I've had the fuel screw everywhere from about 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 turns out with the same results, so I just adjusted it to the highest smooth idle, as I've seen described elsewhere.

One last try to get some help on this... Is it possible that I'm jetted right and this is what I'm dealing with?

first of all why is it idling when it should be revving, LOL, but anyway, i think that yoy are rich on the pilot but i am unsure. that stuff from sparks could be true. I did not notice any carb mods besides jetting in your sig but i did not really look. If you have the stock pilot put it in and go to 3 turns out and see if it goes away. if not then i would just say that is the case. if not then you were too rich and you solved the problem. that would be where i would start but that is just my .02 steve

I'm afraid to go back to the stock pilot since I removed my choke, but I do have a 40 I could try, as well. The only reason I haven't done that yet is it seems to me that the difference between a 40 and 42 is so small that I should be able to get the difference with nothing more than a fuel screw adjustment...

I would try the 40 then and see if it works. I am not sure how much of a difference there is but i guess it could not hurt ot find out. i would say that if you are at 42 at 1.5 turns out then that may be the equivalent of a 40 with it at 3.5 turns out. which is still a big difference but at least you could find out if it is going ot work or not. It may be caused by too much and making it lean but how come the rest of us with stock carbs dont have that problem, this is the only reason i am basing my info on being too rich. I would not use a 2 on any sort of stock motor but i guess it is opinion. I can start my 400 when it is 30 below and not have anuy problems with not getting enough gas. I use my choke but it still does not have an issue. I am not sure where you since if forgot already from when i looked but if you are not in cold like that you should never have to worry about it. for the little bit of time that the pilot is used it can be a bit lean instead of being too rich and making this happen. Just my opinion though. steve

Thanks. You've given me a little bit to think about. I'm gonna give the 40 a go and see what happens.

if you would, let me know what you find out and if you tell a difference between the two pilots. thanks steve
