thinking about trading my 250r off for another 400ex,
so i don't have to mix gas, and can buy a lower octane on the trail (if i have to)and not worry about it

and maybe get a 400 with reverse

anyone interested?

Cant believe this thread lol. Good luck on finding somebody to trade you I have 3 250r's and a banshee i know it can be a pain for maintenence and the requirement of highgrade gas. I honestly dont think you would be happy downgrading to a 400ex no offense. I like my ex but if i was you since you are wanting to trade why not trade for a 450r. Again i say goodluck im sure alot of owners would trade you straight up.

if i could trade for a 450r i would no doubt, and i love my r but i really need something that i can put a lower octane in am not worry about it, and my 400 gets double if not more the fuel milage then the r does, so that means i have to stop twice as many time to ride, pain in the *** when you want to ride 150 -200 miles a day then theres the mixing to boot... right now i just really want another 4 stroke for the kind of rideing, then within the next yr or so i am going to build another 250r.

93. some of the gas stations off the trail don't carry it, and i don't believe in octane boosters

lol you have to run that in the 400ex too. if you want to bog and go slow go ahead and run something less but theres a reason for the manual requiring what 91?

Yea but what hes talking bout is that some places dont have highgrade gas and you can get by sometimes with midgrade in the 400ex because its not mixed. 2 strokes ping real bad and can foul plugs real easy. Sometimes ive got bad gas and fouled a few before it happens.

i'm to clear this up once and for all!!!

i run 93 in my quads when i have the chance. but when you go out on a 200 plus mile trail sometimes you can not buy a high grade of gasoline.

can you run 87 in a 400ex? yes you can i have had to do it before

it seams like you think that a higher grade a gasoline makes you go faster.. this is not true, The octane number of gasoline is a measure of its resistance to knock.
so there forth the higher the number means theres more resistance to premature ignition and/or detonation.
this is why you run higher octane in a high compression engine.

i am unsure why you seam to think a lower grade would make you quad "bog" it's not true - so i am not going to touch that one.

and lastly. major manufacturers (exp. ford, chevy, dodge, honda, kawasaki , suzuki, yamaha) would never build any engine that couldn't operate, on the bare minimum of octane available in this country. while some things may ask for a requirement of high grade gas that doesn't mean you can't put a lower grade in them.
let take a turbocharged car for example- due to the fact it a turbo'ed car. the maker may say it needs 93 due the fact it's pushing say 5-7psi with the turbo. now due to this fact the car would need a higher grade due to the increased cylinder pressures,to reduce the chance of detonation. but when the car maker built that car they made sure it would run on a lower octane without detonation. they do this so some body that doesn't know better doesn't blow the engine and go back on the car maker. - so to sum it up. a manufacturer wouldn't build an engine the average joe could blow up because there to many people that would. and a company wouldn't be able to replace an engine every time somebody didn't read the owners manual

this is not open to debate. i don't care if you think i am wrong. i know engines i prob have built more then most people have even had. so i won't be replying anymore about this subject matter. and this thread is not about what gas i choose to put in MY quad. and why i choose to buy, sell, or trade my things. so unless you want to know something about the R or want to trade me,

QUIT HIJACKING MY TREAD

thank you,
beags
