seems like my 310 R doesnt have enough in each gear, i mean i stab the throttle and pretty much instantly i need to change gears. If i go with a 14/38 sprocket set up, will it have more go in each gear? will this help it not wind out so fast?

yeah a larger front and smaller rear sprocket will give you taller (longer) gears also might wanna try a larger tire size.

What is your gearing at now?
I am currently running a 14/38 works good
I have tried 13/38 & 13/40 on my big bore and thats no good (winds out to fast)
I was going to try a 14/37 next time out, but I have alaways had a good luck with 14/38
also what year trans are you running?
mine is a 1989, I heard the 86, 5th and 6th gears are taller

With listing your gearing opinions you should also list what tire size you run in the rear, my R is a dune bike and will be running 21" rear tires so my gearing suggestions wouldn't work on a trail or dirt runner which are usually 18" rears.....JMO

hondamancbr03 is correct tire size matters
I also run dunes 20/10/10 10 paddel haulers
for that 14/38 is working good
I have ridden that way in the woods but my quad is, a little much for the woods the way its built, so I just take my 450r to the woods.

sorry, i have a 310 with a 39 carb, dyno port exhaust, 2 degree timing advance, 190 comp, and 13/39 gearing. i run 20 inch rear tires. so should i try a 14 front for starters to see if i like it better?

I would try a 38 in the rear. I tried a 14 on the front, and I didn't really like it. It seemed to be too tall for me. I've thought about trying a 37 on the rear. Right now I'm running a 14/38.

considering the engine your running and if its dialed in, you should deffinately be able to pull a 14/38 gearing with the 20" tires. i've run that gearing on all my quads with great success and i only have lil motors.

so you guys think this will help my problem with mx'ing. I just cant seem to keep it in the power band in the corners, and then i bomb the jumps, because i cant get up to speed, maybe im going the wrong way? Im thinking of just buying a 12 front, and a 14 front, to test out and see what i like, then get a good rear.
I assume honda didnt switch from a 39 rear in the 86-87 to a 38 in the later years for no reason...

Does anyone have a 37, 38, 40 or 41 rear sprocket?
